Biosurveillance Epidemiologist

As required by our governmental client, this position requires being a US Citizen AND an active Top Secret/SCI clearance or the ability to obtain a Top Secret/SCI clearance to be considered.

The Biosurveillance Epidemiologist supports a multidisciplinary team in planning and executing epidemiological surveillance for all hazards affecting Department of Defense (DoD) forces worldwide. This role conducts continuous biosurveillance across CBRN threats, health events, occupational and environmental exposures, injuries, and disease outbreaks. The position integrates epidemiologic analysis, intelligence review, and CBRN surveillance to identify risks, recommend preventive measures, and enhance force health protection.

Biosurveillance Epidemiologist Responsibilities Include:

  • Conduct ongoing surveillance of all-hazard information, intelligence, and CBRN databases to identify emerging health threats to military populations.
  • Consolidate epidemiologic, CBRN, and intelligence data to develop risk assessments and inform preventive strategies.
  • Define specific epidemiologic problems, conduct background research, and review data reported to military biodefense surveillance systems and civilian scientific sources.
  • Design action plans, select appropriate analytical methods, and implement new or modified epidemiologic approaches to address novel or complex problems.
  • Analyze trends, disease rates, and health event impacts; interpret findings and highlight significant issues for leadership attention.
  • Conduct outcomes analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of preventive or mitigation measures.
  • Support investigations of disease clusters, outbreaks, focused surveillance projects, and comprehensive public health surveillance initiatives.
  • Prepare technical reports, scientific summaries, and manuscripts for dissemination within the biodefense community and for presentation at scientific meetings.
  • Advise commanders and DoD officials on epidemiologic issues, surveillance results, and recommended courses of action.
  • Participate as part of epidemiological consultation teams to provide expert input on biosurveillance and force health protection.
  • Maintain current knowledge of epidemiology, biodefense surveillance systems, analytical tools, and relevant data sources.
  • Utilize mapping and visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau, ArcGIS, Power BI) to support analysis and communication of findings.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Biosurveillance Epidemiologist Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

  • Master's degree (MPH, MSPH, MSc, or related) or Doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, or related) with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Background in infectious disease epidemiology and public health.
  • Demonstrated experience manipulating and analyzing data to support medical or public health decision-making.
  • Prior experience supporting Federal clients, particularly DoD, preferred.
  • Experience with data visualization and mapping tools such as Tableau, ArcGIS, or Power BI preferred.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
