Human Resources Generalist / Payroll Specialist

This position is responsible for performing HR and payroll-related duties on a professional level. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: payroll and benefits administration, onboarding, employee relations, recruitment/employment, employment law compliance, and other areas as needed by the HR team.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Reviews timecards for completeness and accuracy; contacts supervisors to resolve discrepancies.



  • Prepares and processes bi-weekly payroll for multi-state U.S. and Canada locations.



  • Analyzes, prepares, tracks, and inputs payroll data, including garnishments, vacation and sick time, insurance, and 401(k) deductions. Utilizes automated systems to ensure accurate, timely payroll in compliance with applicable federal and state wage and hour laws.



  • Establishes and maintains employee records; ensures timely and accurate entry of employee changes with proper authorization and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.



  • Reviews and responds to unemployment claims.



  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; recommends best practices and reviews policies to maintain compliance.



  • Prepares, processes, and ensures accuracy of all year-end payroll requirements and annual state-specific reporting.



  • Handles employee relations issues, referring them to management as needed.



  • Provides services to employees by answering payroll and benefits questions, resolving issues related to access or payment of benefits, and processing enrollment forms and changes.



  • Conducts new hire orientation for health, welfare, retirement benefits, paid time off, and other HR programs and policies.



  • Assists with compiling reports for annual submissions including OSHA 300 logs, workers' compensation, 401(k), EEO-1, and VETS reporting.



  • Assists in administering employee benefit programs such as health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, flexible spending, paid time off, workers' compensation, employee assistance, COBRA, and other plans.



  • May assist with verifying calculations of monthly premium statements for group insurance policies and reconciling discrepancies with carriers.



  • Assists in administering the company's leave of absence and Family and Medical Leave programs; maintains documentation and ensures payment of employee insurance premiums while on leave.



  • Assists with coordinating companywide wellness activities.



  • Assists with completion of salary and benefits surveys.



  • Observes and promotes Probo's standards and policies on safety, quality, and productivity.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience:


  • High School Diploma or GED.



  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.



  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure.



  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.



  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.



  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.



  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.



  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.




Preferred Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or related discipline.



  • Two+ years of experience performing payroll functions.



  • Multi-state payroll experience a plus.



  • Experience with automated payroll systems, preferably Paylocity.



  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus.




TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS


  • This position requires minimal travel (less than 10%).
