Sr Safety Analyst Overview:

Sun Country Airlines is seeking a Senior Safety Analyst to be responsible for leading complex safety investigations, advanced data analysis, and Safety Management System (SMS) initiatives. This role provides technical guidance in safety and SMS, drives cross-departmental safety improvements, and serves as a key safety analysis resource for operational leadership. While not a supervisor, the Senior Safety Analyst mentors Safety Analysts and supports program development, helping shape safety programs in preparation for future leadership roles. This position bridges tactical analysis and strategic safety decision-making, supporting the Company's proactive safety culture and compliance with FAA and IOSA requirements.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the execution, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Company's Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Develop and propose enhancements to safety policies, procedures, and manuals in alignment with regulations and industry best practices.
  • Serve as a safety investigator for operational events and auditor within the Internal Evaluation Program (IEP)
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret safety data to identify hazards, trends, and emerging risks
  • Support administration of safety databases, develop advanced analytical models and predictive indicators, and generate performance reports for management to support strategic decision-making
  • Prepare dashboards and presentations for various weekly and monthly safety reviews and Board meetings
  • Develop safety alerts/newsletters, studies, and promotional materials to communicate safety trends and lessons learned.
  • Lead Safety Promotion campaigns.
  • Support the Company's Safety Assurance programs through risk assessments and tracking of corrective actions
  • Act as an ambassador for safety promotion, reinforcing Just Culture principles and SMS engagement across departments
  • Lead safety improvement projects, collaborating with operational departments to design, implement, and validate
  • Serve as a technical expert on ProSafeT software platform
  • Mentor Safety Analysts by providing guidance, sharing expertise, and supporting the development of analytical and investigative skills


Additionally, each senior analyst may also be assigned focus areas that include, but are not limited to, the following:



  • Safety Reporting: Review, process, and analyze all safety reports (Operational Irregularity/Safety, ASAP, Fatigue), identifying systemic issues and trends
  • Security: Track and investigate security-related events, evaluate TSA Letters of Investigation (LOIs) and CBP Notices of Civil Penalty, and coordinate process improvements to mitigate future risk
  • Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA): Participate in the FOQA Monitoring Team, analyze flight data, and provide actionable insights to management, the pilot group, and the FAA
  • Occupational Safety (OSHA): Support the Company's workplace safety initiatives by identifying and mitigating hazards and collaborating with operational teams to reduce employee injury rates


Required Qualifications:



  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Safety Analyst or similar position in a safety-critical operational environment, preferably within an airline or maintenance organization
  • Advanced knowledge of aviation safety programs
  • Advanced knowledge of Safety Management System (SMS) principles, including risk management, safety assurance, reporting, and promotion
  • Advanced data analysis and technical skills, including statistical analysis and audit evaluation
  • Familiarity with airline operational functions such as Dispatch, Flight Operations, Ground Operations, Inflight, and Technical Operations
  • Understanding of aircraft systems, MELs, dispatch procedures, and Federal Aviation Regulations
  • Foundational knowledge of Crew Resource Management and aviation human factors
  • Excellent written communication skills for report writing, manual development, and correspondence with regulatory agencies
  • Demonstrated expertise in FAA Part 121 and Part 5 regulations and operational standards
  • Proficient in audit principles, risk management, and root cause analysis
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite and safety tracking systems


Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Aviation, Safety, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Experience in a high-volume operational environment, preferably within an airline or maintenance organization
  • FAA certification as an Aircraft Dispatcher, Pilot, or Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic
  • Safety professional certifications, ICAO or IATA SMS certifications, root cause or investigation certifications. OSHA 10 or 30 hour certifications, or data analytics certifications


Compensation:

Pay range: $60,000 - $75,000 USD annually. This is the base compensation hiring range for this role.

Minneapolis, MN (onsite)

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibility but provides mentorship for Safety Analysts.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
