Pay Range

$111,600 - $136,656 Annually

This is the lowest to highest salary in good faith we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. Pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.


Job Description

We have an opening for a Security Specialist to support the LLNL Superblock as a Deployed Security Officer. You will oversee and support security requirements, procedures, and physical security responsibilities for the Superblock. This will include resolving security-related issues, interpreting policies and procedures, coordinating compliance activities, and assisting with the development of new security practices. You will have extensive interactions with peers and various levels of management internal and external to LLNL. This position supports Superblock in the Strategic Deterrence Directorate.

This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

In this role you will

  • Lead, direct, and oversee Superblock security requirements, functions, operating procedures and policies and physical security responsibilities.
  • Provide support to the Superblock director in response to security incidents, communicating and collaborating with the SD Directorate Security Officer as appropriate.
  • Resolve security-related issues/inquiries; interpret and provide guidance on DOE Security Orders and Laboratory Policy policies, procedures, guidelines, and manuals.
  • Plan, coordinate and conduct inspections, reviews, and assessments to ensure work is conducted in compliance with DOE Security Orders and LLNL policy; compile data and report findings to managements, collaborate on solutions and initiate corrective actions.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new security procedures specific to Superblock operations.
  • Prepare and review security plans: conduct inspections, audits, and other work activities related to the physical and personnel security of Superblock programs.
  • Conduct security investigations as needed and prepare clear, concise casual reports documenting findings and recommendations.
  • Facilitate effective communication and coordinate activities between the Superblock and the Security Organization to ensure successful completion of assurance activities and associated issues and corrective actions management.
  • SBK POCfor coordination of security protection strategy performance tests.
  • Provide direction, guidance, and serve as the point-of-contact for Superblock employees on all security requirements and policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top-Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree, in security, science, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and related experience.
  • Knowledge of security principles and regulatory requirements related to CMPC and the ability to understand and follow established LLNL/DOE practices, standards, processes, and systems.
  • Experience functioning effectively as a team member as well as working independently with a high degree of maturity, discretion, and judgment.
  • Experience working effectively under limited supervision in a fast-paced environment and the demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills necessary to recommend appropriate actions and solutions.
  • Experience working collaboratively on projects and the proven ability to build strong relationships with team members and clients.
  • Experience providing support for self-assessments and audits.
  • Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal skills to interact with diplomacy and tact with a wide variety of personnel and disciplines internal and external to the Laboratory.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Experience working effectively in a classified environment and experience working in a scientific or technical program.
  • Experience reviewing, evaluating, and assisting with the development of implementation plans for DOE, physical security orders, manuals and other directives relating to physical security.
  • Previous experience working effectively in a classified environment.
  • Understanding the complexities of working in a Haz Cat 2 facility and its impact on the implementation of physical security requirements.
