Overview

We are seeking a Sr. Test Automation Engineer to coordinate functional testing for the Veterans Affairs (VA) Independent Enterprise Testing and Support Services (IETSS) contract. This role supports VA's healthcare priorities by improving interoperability within and across systems of care.



Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include designing, implementing, and executing test and evaluation procedures to ensure health information technology systems meet requirements. The Sr. Test Automation Engineer will assess operational feasibility by analyzing requirements and test results, document findings, and contribute to solution development through test plans, test cases, and reporting. Additional duties include reviewing system design specifications, conducting systems analysis, and recommending process improvements.

The candidate will collaborate with stakeholders, engineers, and other SMEs in meetings and project activities. Supported applications include, but are not limited to, VistA legacy systems, Oracle Millennium, and COTS/GOTS integrations with VistA.

We are seeking a Senior Automation Test Engineer to help advance our automated IV&V processes as part of our ongoing goal to increase test automation maturity.

    Coordinate and develop Eggplant automation test scripts, collaborating with clients, cross-functional teams, and Oracle Health.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement automated testing strategies to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Create automated test assets-including scripts, schedules, and frameworks-using the Eggplant testing tool.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance Eggplant test scripts and architectures for application products.
  • Understand project architecture, test environments, and data requirements to ensure effective testing.
  • Conduct comprehensive product testing, including positive, negative, validation, and regression testing.
  • Analyze requirements and translate them into actionable test plans.
  • Identify, document, and resolve defects in accordance with established standards and processes.
  • Prepare detailed status reports, test execution summaries, and analysis documentation.
  • Design, implement, and execute test and evaluation procedures to confirm health IT system requirements are met.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, providing testing expertise for complex health IT software and hardware applications.
  • Work independently and collaboratively, fostering a team-oriented environment and effectively presenting detailed information to achieve organizational and testing goals.
  • Actively participate in meetings with VA EHRM customers, project teams, and key stakeholders to ensure alignment and progress.


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical, engineering, scientific, managerial, business, or related discipline.
  • Substitution: Two (2) years of relevant experience or an associate degree plus four (4) years of relevant experience may substitute for a bachelor's degree.
  • 3-5 years of experience in clinical software testing, including leading test efforts.
  • 3-4 years of experience as a test automation engineer, with proficiency in test management tools and automation frameworks-specifically Eggplant.
  • Strong understanding of Oracle Health Millennium healthcare systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of clinical workflows, policies, procedures, and patient care processes.
  • Comprehensive experience in software testing lifecycle, including writing detailed test plans, test cases, and reports.
  • Ability to communicate status updates and present defects clearly to stakeholders.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • S. Citizenship required.
  • Must successfully pass a government background investigation, including detailed forms and fingerprinting, to obtain clearance.

Required Technical/Business Tools Experience:

  • Eggplant, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Oracle Health Millennium healthcare domain
  • Communication tools (Teams, SharePoint)


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with VA electronic health records is highly desirable.
  • Background in a clinical setting with strong understanding of clinical workflows.
  • Familiarity with VA healthcare software applications and related systems.
  • Solid business knowledge of healthcare applications and processes.
  • Hands-on experience working within an Agile development environment.
  • Experience with the following tools and methodologies is a plus:
    • OpenText Application Lifecycle Management (ALM)
    • OpenText Unified Functional Testing (UFT)
    • Risk-based testing methodologies
