Position Summary:


The purpose of the Corporate Environmental Manager is to assist with companywide wastewater operations, stormwater management, and potable water cross-connection control programs and facility environmental audits.


Dimensions:


This position will assist all PCA mills and converting facilities with achieving and maintaining compliance with applicable Local, State and Federal water regulations with a particular emphasis on technical support. The Corporate Environmental Manager will travel as needed to assist environmental staff and management at PCA facilities and will also provide support remotely.


Principle Accountabilities:



  • Ensure that wastewater treatment plant operations are compliant with Local, State and Federally applicable permits and laws.
  • Provide facility management and environmental staff operational support and technical expertise in wastewater equipment sizing, process flow, pH control, filter press technology, and automated controls.
  • Provide facility management and environmental staff technical expertise in wastewater treatment chemicals and benchtop lab testing procedures to ensure optimal chemical selection and performance.
  • Provide facility management and environmental staff immediate wastewater/stormwater/cross-connection control troubleshooting and assistance capability for all PCA facilities.
  • Obtain trainings/certifications to increase knowledge base such as state specific Stormwater Operator and Industrial Wastewater Operator certifications, and outside vendor training in Activated Sludge and Aerated Stabilization Basin operations.
  • Serve as main corporate contact for wastewater chemical/treatment vendors.
  • Standardize wastewater technical documentation across plants by working with facility environmental staff and corporate environmental group.
  • Recommend operational and equipment improvements and assist mill and box plant staff in implementing compliance programs for new regulations.
  • Assist facilities in obtaining new permits and preparing renewal applications.
  • Knows and follows policies and procedures of the company, shares information that would benefit other members of the team, and finds ways to improve the delivery of service to our customers.

Decision Making:


Using knowledge of Local, State, and Federal permits and laws, with limited direction, the Corporate Environmental Manager is expected to recommend specific wastewater operational strategies and equipment design to all PCA facilities. As a company representative this position will facilitate discussions between PCA facilities, corporate environmental staff, and regulatory agencies (Local, State, Federal).


Interactions:


Externally, this position will interact with chemical and equipment vendors and regulatory agencies. Internally, this position will also communicate issues and information from PCA facilities to PCA Corporate Environmental Directors and Vice President as needed. This position must also maintain a relationship with PCA Corporate Engineering and Process experts to aid in project and troubleshooting work.


Position Requirements:



  • Education equivalent to a bachelor's degree in physical science, environmental engineering, environmental science, chemical engineering, pulp & paper science or chemistry is required.
  • Seven (7) years of industrial and environmental engineering or consulting experience.
  • State specific stormwater and industrial wastewater operator certifications/experience preferred.
  • Training in activated sludge and aerated stabilization basin wastewater operations preferred.
  • Must be skilled in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with individuals throughout the company on departmental procedures, policies, and requests for information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to network and build relationships with individuals of various experience and levels both within and outside of the company.
  • Strong listening, evaluating, analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to create alternative solutions and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle numerous details, deadlines, and requests.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and work effectively in-person and remotely.
  • Must be able to travel up to 50% as necessary and possess a valid U.S. driver's license.
  • Previous work experience as a member of a team, or a strong understanding of the importance of open communication and information sharing between team members.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS




  • Salary range for position: $106,400-$159,600.
  • Paid Holidays.
  • Within the first 30 days of employment, an employee (and their dependents) is eligible to enroll in certain benefit coverages -- medical, dental, and vision - and are automatically enrolled in life, AD&D, and disability coverages.
  • Upon hire, an employee is automatically enrolled in the 401k plan. The plan offers both pre-tax and Roth contribution options along with employer provided matching contributions.
