We are seeking an experienced Payroll Tax Analyst & Garnishment Specialist to support multi-state payroll tax compliance and garnishment administration across our organization.

Position Summary

The Payroll Tax Analyst & Garnishment Specialist ensures the accuracy and compliance of multi-state payroll taxes, maintains unemployment (SUI) rate data, and oversees quarterly and annual tax reconciliations and filings. This role also leads the processing of court-ordered deductions-including child support, tax levies, and bankruptcy orders-while managing the payroll platform garnishment module and ensuring timely and accurate disbursements to agencies. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, compliance-focused, and able to manage high-volume, complex payroll tax and garnishment processes.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Tax Administration

  • Manage multi-state payroll tax setup, maintenance, and compliance across federal, state, and local jurisdictions.
  • Maintain and update SUI (State Unemployment Insurance) rates and ensure accurate application.
  • Reconcile quarterly and annual payroll tax filings, supporting audits and correcting discrepancies as needed.
  • Monitor tax notices, resolve agency inquiries, and ensure accurate remittance and reporting.
  • Validate tax data within payroll systems to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Garnishment & Wage Order Processing

  • Process child support orders, tax levies, creditor garnishments, and bankruptcy deductions.
  • Manage all garnishment activity within the payroll system garnishment module, including setup, processing, and terminations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate agency payments and responses to wage order requests.
  • Communicate with employees regarding garnishment questions while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Partner with legal, HR, and payroll teams on compliance requirements and complex cases.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in payroll tax administration and/or garnishment processing within a multi-state environment.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and wage garnishment regulations.
  • Experience reconciling quarterly and annual tax filings (e.g., Forms 941, W-2, SUI filings).
  • Hands-on experience with ADP Workforce Now or a similar enterprise payroll system, including tax and garnishment modules.
  • Strong analytical and reconciliation skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret court orders and agency notices accurately.
  • Excellent communication and customer-service skills, with a high level of discretion and confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a professional services, multi-entity, or large-scale payroll environment.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, data validation).
  • Familiarity with agency portals and tax research resources.
  • We appreciate talent from all over the United States and are willing to consider candidates who may not be located near a Crowe office location for this role/opening.
