Job Description:

Responsible for direct patient care by reviewing patient's medical history while collecting, prioritizing, and synthesizing comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation. Provides education, consultation or intervention to patients (treatment plan) and their families.

Performs operations of the heart and blood vessels of the body. Scope includes management of pathologic conditions of cardiovascular structures. This includes congenital and acquired lesions of both the heart and blood vessels in the thorax as well as diseases involving the lungs and associated structures. In addition, the surgeon establishes a precise diagnosis, utilizing procedures such as cardiac catheterization, angiography, electrocardiography, echocardiography, imaging techniques, endoscopy, tissue biopsy and other appropriate tests. Performs evolving techniques such as laser therapy, endovascular procedures, electrophysiological procedures and devices, thoracoscopy and thoracoscopic surgery.

The starting salary is between $630,000 and $900,000 and is based on experience and qualifications. An additional $70,000 to $100,000 may be earned through a bonus.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Direct Patient Care
    • Reviews patient's medical history while collecting, prioritizing, and synthesizing comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation.
    • Evaluates, interprets, and coordinates information to make decisions and recommendations regarding patient care.
    • Provides education, consultation or intervention to patients (treatment plan) and their families.
    • Works collaboratively with patients to improve their health and well-being.
    • Practices in a thoughtful manner including consideration for cultural diversity, individual autonomy and legal responsibilities.
    • Manages complex cardiac conditions, including diagnosis, treatment, and possibly surgery. Manages a range of pathologic conditions of cardiovascular structures. this includes congenital and acquired lesions of the heart.
    • Performs operations on the heart and blood vessels of the body. This may include surgeries such as replacement of heart valves or bypasses of blocked coronary arteries. May also include vessel surgeries such as for artery problems or microvascular surgery for diabetic leg ulcers, etc. May perform evolving techniques such as laser therapy, endovascular procedures, electrophysiological procedures, thoracoscopy and thoracoscopic surgery.
    • Charts in electronic format in accordance with licensure and scope.
    • Actively participates in multidisciplinary team approach to case management.
    • May provide care in an ambulatory clinic, inpatient or outpatient hospital setting.
    • May participate in on-call rotation.
  • Quality.
    • Utilizes quality improvement tools to develop processes that promote continuous improvement in delivery of patient care, patient outcomes, or work flows.
    • May participate in peer review and quality assurance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral/Ph.D. level advanced degree in Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or foreign equivalent from an approved school of medicine
  • Required Completion of an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic (AOA) accredited Residency training program in Internal Medicine or foreign equivalency training
  • Required completion of an ACGME or AOA accredited Residency training program in internal medicine or foreign equivalent from an approved school of medicine
  • Required completion of an ACGME or AOA accredited Fellowship training program in Vascular Surgery or foreign equivalency training or completion of an ACGME accredited, integrated vascular surgery program
  • 0 to 2 years demonstrated experience in the designated specialty area, including experience with diagnostic procedures such as cardiac catheterization, angiography, electrocardiography, echocardiography, endoscopy, and other diagnostics specific to cardiac diseases

Licenses/Certifications

  • Licensed Physician - MN Board of Medical Practice required
  • ACLS/BLS Tier 3 - Multisource required
  • PALS - Pediatric Advance Life Support - Multisource required depending on business unit
  • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation - Multisource required depending on business unit
  • Licensed Physician upon hire required
  • Board Certification by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, or in Thoracic Cardiovascular Surgery by the AOA Board of Surgery upon hire required
  • Drug Enforcement Agency Certificate upon hire required
  • Prescription Monitoring Program upon hire required
  • National Provider Identifier upon hire required
