Job Summary

This position provides administrative support to the Cancer Center's Supportive Oncology Services Department, and Manager. The incumbent will perform one or more general and specialized clerical and administrative services essential to the operation of our Supportive Oncology Services and Survivorship departments; and perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting administrative Assistance tasks in the Healthcare setting.
  • High level of initiative and ability to work independently with minimal supervision, exercising good judgment and decision-making ability, and resolve conflicts.
  • Excellent organization and analytical skills to perform responsibilities to successful completion, manage calendars, schedules, and multiple projects simultaneous and still meet required deadlines. Skill to create agendas and take accurate meeting minutes.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and the desire and ability to learn other programs as needed.
  • High level of skill and experience to efficiently type and format technical, scientific and medical material.
  • Possess professional oral communication skills, tact and diplomacy, and ability to maintain composure in dealing with faculty, administrative staff, patients, and the general public.
  • Ability to convey instructions, directions and information appropriately.
  • Skill to listen to complex instructions, analyze needs, determine action, and initiate follow-up.
  • Skill to read, comprehend, and/or interpret written materials such as correspondence, technical instructions, and University policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to record messages accurately and extract appropriate information from caller or visitor.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure despite frequent interruptions, flexibility to adapt to change, and function as a team player.
  • Excellent, professional writing, editing and proofreading skills to quickly and accurately produce correspondence and other written materials.
  • Demonstrated investigative skills to elicit information needed to clarify inquiries and requests; and professional skills to handle sensitive or difficult situations diplomatically, work effectively and sensitively with constituents from diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives, and maintain confidentiality of personnel, clinical or other sensitive issues/matters.
  • Skill, knowledge and ability to utilize tact, diplomacy, patience and courtesy in dealing with a wide variety of individuals and to interact harmoniously and positively at all times.
  • Ability to ensure confidentiality relating to the department and University.
  • Skill to compose clear, concise and grammatically correct correspondence.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work professionally and effectively with faculty, public, peers and administrators in person and over the telephone.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree in related field.
  • Preferred experience supporting Oncology Services.
  • Knowledge of departmental, hospital, University and other UC policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of grant preparation and processing procedures desirable.
