Position Highlights The Tucson Village Farm is looking for a skilled Maintenance & Facilities Coordinator (Facilities Management & Service Worker III).

We are seeking a creative, handy, mission-driven individual to help build and maintain the spaces where learning happens. This position will act as the department's primary liaison and resource for facilities-related needs and activities. The ideal candidate will be able to perform job duties with independence and creativity to provide the best course of action, solutions, and/or recommendations for any issues presented to them.

The Tucson Village Farm (TVF) is a working urban farm and educational resource designed to connect young people to healthy food, nature, and community. We provide hands-on learning experiences in sustainable agriculture, nutrition, environmental stewardship, and outdoor education. Our facilities, gardens, outdoor classrooms, learning stations, and farm structures all which are central to our mission.

Duties & Responsibilities

Construction & Creative Building:

  • Design, build, and install outdoor learning structures (e.g., shade structures, garden beds, tool stations, activity stations, signage, and interactive educational elements).
  • Fabricate small structures such as chicken coops, storage units, teaching props, and demonstration models.
  • Assist in creating innovative educational spaces that support hands-on learning.

General Maintenance & Repairs:

  • Perform routine maintenance on farm buildings, greenhouses, sheds, irrigation systems, fencing, and equipment.
  • Conduct repairs in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and basic mechanical areas (within skill/comfort level).
  • Ensure all learning environments and infrastructure are safe, clean, and well-functioning.

Grounds & Infrastructure Care, Safety & Compliance:

  • Support upkeep of pathways, outdoor classroom areas, composting zones, water stations, and shaded areas.
  • Maintain tools, storage areas, and workspaces in an organized and safe condition.
  • Monitor facilities for hazards; perform preventative maintenance.
  • Follow all safety protocols; maintain safe working conditions for youth participants and staff.

Collaboration & Community Engagement:

  • Coordinate with educators to assist with designing spaces that meet program needs.
  • Work with volunteers, youth groups, and community members to coordinate building and maintenance projects.
  • Support special events by preparing spaces as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Ability to use and maintain power and hand tools safely.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and creativity in designing functional learning spaces.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to work independently.
  • Bonus skills: welding, irrigation installation, woodworking, painting/mural work, or experience at a farm or educational facilities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or high school equivalency is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in construction, carpentry, facilities maintenance, landscaping, or a related field.
