Occupational Summary

Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting laboratory tests, experiments and determinations in support of Duke University research operations.

The applicant will join the newly established Roger Lab at Duke University. The research explores the characterization of respiratory deficits and neuromuscular weakness using clinically relevant techniques and develop novel, translational therapies to treat these pathologies. The laboratory uses a variety of techniques including molecular biology (cloning, PCR, mammalian cell culture, qPCR, and proteomics), genetics (recombinant viral vectors - AAV, mouse breeding), imaging (histology, light microscopy, confocal microscopy), and strength analyses (whole body plethysmography to evaluate respiration, limb function tests). The Roger Lab is dedicated to inclusive mentorship and training. Work Performed



  • Manage mouse colony including breeding, weaning, transfers, transport, and supportive care.





  • Perform and compile data related to molecular analyses including PCR, RT-qPCR, and western blots to evaluate mouse tissues.





  • Perform and compile data related to whole-body plethysmography (respiratory analysis) and limb function tests on mice.





  • For some of our experiments, a group of mice will need to be assessed each day, including weekends. This responsibility will be shared between you and other members of the lab.





  • Meet or communicate with supervisors and PI on a regular basis to plan tasks, troubleshoot problems, and discuss results.





  • Maintain accurate and thorough records in a timely manner.





  • Manage laboratory equipment and inventory.





  • Carry out routine laboratory duties including routine maintenance, sterilizing glassware and disposables, and disposal of laboratory waste.





  • Participate in weekly lab meetings to discuss results or literature.





  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Anticipated Pay Range:

Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $19.06 to USD $28.85.
