Job Summary The Senior Grants Accountant plays a key role in the Controller's Office at Maricopa Community Colleges, overseeing the accounting and compliance of restricted funding. This position ensures grant dollars are managed responsibly by applying a strong understanding of state, local, and federal regulations and by guiding College and District staff in proper fund allocation and usage. As a lead advisor, the Senior Grants Accountant provides support across multiple accounting areas, including purchasing, payroll, capital assets, general accounting, treasury, and accounts payable, to maintain accuracy and compliance throughout the grant lifecycle. The position also involves preparing audit documentation and collaborating with external partners to develop complex financial reports, thereby contributing to the District's commitment to accountability, transparency, and effective stewardship of public funds. Essential Functions 25% - Manages post-award activity, including account creation; regulatory and compliance monitoring:
25% - Provides analytical and fiscal support for activities related to restricted funds:
25% - Regularly communicates with Project Directors and/or grants staff regarding funding portfolio and expense activity:
15% - Prepares analytical accounting schedules, projections, reports, and materials for various internal and external agencies and administrators:
10% - Collaborates within the Controller's Office and various departments to review, recommend, and implement modifications to accounting systems and procedures in order to streamline grant, accounting, budget, and fiscal processes and improve controls:
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in finance, accounting, auditing, economics, business or public administration, or directly related field and four (4) years of experience that includes a combination of experience with the application of GAAP theory and practice, uniform administrative requirements, cost principles, and audit requirements for federal awards, tax laws as they apply to accounting transactions and reporting; and/or exposure to governmental fund accounting and use of computerized accounting systems. OR An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above, sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.
