PURPOSE

Establishes and maintains Company truss (roof and floor) design standards and best practices that comply with building codes in all markets. Works with Company management to ensure all design activities support business plans and strategies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Works directly with all design groups in the Company to implement and maintain consistent standards and practices.





  • Ensures all Designers (Truss Technicians) are using the latest approved design software companywide.





  • Maintains all design data bases and monitors design activities.





  • Works with Design Managers to source for new Designers as staffing needs dictate.





  • Works with Design Managers to train and develop new Designers. This includes developing the training materials and conducting the training.





  • Develops the training materials and conducts the training of Company Sales Representatives who sell our truss products.





  • Provides Vice President of Manufacturing with periodic reports of status of Company's design groups.





  • Other duties as assigned.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No direct reports; however, position has a dotted-line working relationship with Design Managers throughout the Company and may carry out quasi-supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing Designer applicants and providing input into hiring decisions; training Designers; providing feedback on performance of design groups; addressing complaints and solving problems related to design.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Associate's degree (A. A.) from a two-year college or technical school minimum. Bachelor's degree preferred. Ten years of truss design experience is required. Experience should include supervision of Designers.

COMPETENCIES

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write business reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions. This job requires exceptional communication skills.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts ranging from basic business math to the technical math associated with truss design. This job requires exceptional mathematical skills.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and to deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Computer Skills: Ability to work with the systems and software used by the Company in managing the design function. Experience with PowerPoint software is necessary.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations: Wood Truss Council Level 3 Certification (or equivalent) is required. Professional Engineer license is preferred.

Other Qualifications: Excellent organizational and planning skills, attention to detail and ability to handle multiple priorities. Must be able to travel up to 40% of schedule.
