Scope of the Job
The Planning Managers are responsible for leading the Planners and planning-function of the company across all locations. This position will work alongside our existing Planning Manager. Responsibilities include: development of issue plans to support the production plan of firearms at Smith & Wesson; ensuring released production plans can be fulfilled based upon on hand component levels; frequent collaboration with Procurement, Cell Coordinators, and Team Leaders in various departments to ensure the production plan is feasible and to adjust the plan as a result of unexpected changes in component supply; and working closely with the Inventory Control team to ensure inventory accuracy.
Requirements
- Experience managing planners or a combination of 5+ years of planning experience and people management experience
- SAP for production planning experience
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
- Active-participation or experience leading in the S&OP/SIOP (sales & operations planning or sales, inventory and operation planning) process
- Strong analytic background.
- Must have strong command of the English language, both verbal and written communications.
Essential duties include the following - other duties may be assigned:
- Responsible for acting on order releases action and exception messages from the system.
- Plans and manages production schedules to meet customer delivery requirements and best utilize the company's productive capacity while keeping inventory levels to the minimum required.
- Responsible for the management of inventory levels, schedules and availability of selected item, either manufactured or purchased, to meet production schedules.
- Release Planned Orders for production material and floor stock items to support the business unit.
- Interface with Engineering, manufacturing personnel, the Purchasing Department and Supervisors on material status and production planning issues.
Training
- Complete all necessary training as required by assigned department and position
- Participate in and follow all company initiatives
- Participate in continuous improvement projects (Kaizen events, 5S, etc)
Physical Demands
- Must be able to stand, sit, stoop, squat and walk
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds
Personal Protective Equipment & Work Environment
- Safety glasses with side shields when on factory floor
- The use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a job task(s) is being completed in or around your assigned department or in another department, this includes safety eyewear, hearing protection, and safety footwear
- All employees are required to apply ergonomic correctness to all job tasks
- May be required depending on position:
- Annual vision updates in Medical Department
- Involvement in the hearing conservation program
- Wearing of safety certified shoes/boots
- Normal office environment conditions
- Within the Smith & Wesson manufacturing facility, employees may be exposed to manufacturing noise, airborne liquid chemicals, fine particulate dust, ambient temperatures, and industrial lighting
- Work environment is similar to most manufacturing operations. May be exposed to excessive noise, temperatures, hazards associated with working around moving machinery, work in confined quarters, exposure to vibrations and shop lighting
