JOB TYPEClassification: Non Exempt Supervises Positions: JOB SUMMARYThe Public Safety Officer acquires and applies the job skills necessary to provide a safe and secure environment for improving the health of our communities. QUALIFICATIONSEducation: High School Diploma or GED required. Experience: Public interactions work experience required. Work experience in related field preferred (law enforcement, military, or security management). Previous healthcare security experience preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details. Licensure: Driver's License in applicable state required. CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification within 6 months of hire and maintained throughout employment required. Must complete Basic Security Officer Certification through the International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within 6 months of hire and maintained throughout employment required. Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Employees who are hired into a position that requires the employee to drive a vehicle on behalf of the corporation must possess a valid driver's license, be 21 years of age or older and have a Motor Vehicle records verification. Records must meet the criteria set forth in Vehicles - Company Owned/ Leased - NH-LD-RM-3. Driving records will be reviewed and vetted upon hire and must align with UVA Community Health standards. Satisfactorily completes all required organizational and departmental basic, field, and in-service training programs including the Corporate Public Safety Training Plan. Basic computer skills. Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing. Ability to accurately receive and transmit information by radio and telephone. Ability to translate observations and information into legible, complete, and accurate reports. No criminal record. Maintains compliance with the UVA Health Northern VA Culpeper Vehicle Use Policy. Immediately notifies Director of Public Safety or Public Safety Manager of any and all charges relating to the operation of a motor vehicle and/or criminal complaint. PHYSICAL DEMANDSPhysical Demand Code: Medium to Heavy Physical Demand: The job requires constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment.
