Overview
Under general direction from the Security Supervisor, the Security Officer ensures a safe and secure environment by providing protective services to people and property. The incumbent responds to both routine and emergency calls for service and supports the day-to-day operations of the department. Principal Duties & Responsibilities * Perform daily operational functions as directed by the Security Supervisor or Dispatcher to ensure McLean's security needs are met efficiently. * Follow instructions from the Supervisor or Dispatcher to support operational priorities and staffing requirements. * Document incidents and actions taken in a timely, objective, and professional manner. * Complete all assigned tasks in accordance with McLean policies and departmental procedures. Emergency Response * Respond immediately and appropriately to all emergency requests for assistance issued by the Supervisor or Dispatcher. * Act promptly during contingency, disaster, or other critical situations to maintain safety and restore order. * Notify the Dispatcher of actions taken and any need for additional support. Non-Emergency Response * Respond as soon as possible to all non-emergency calls assigned by the Supervisor or Dispatcher. * Provide professional assistance to the hospital community while prioritizing safety and customer service. Reporting & Documentation * Prepare electronic incident reports in an objective and accurate manner. * Write reports clearly and professionally, including all accompanying documentation. * Submit all required reports prior to departing campus at the end of each shift. Customer Service & Community Engagement * Utilize strong customer service skills and community policing philosophies to build positive relationships within the hospital community. * Manage complex, dynamic, and emotionally charged situations using effective communication and problem-solving techniques. * Apply appropriate de-escalation strategies when interacting with disorderly or disruptive individuals. Investigations & Risk Mitigation * Conduct initial investigations into reports of suspicious activity, persons, hazards, or risks. * Take necessary steps to mitigate threats and reduce risk to patients, visitors, and staff. * Act in accordance with training, legal requirements, and established procedures. Use of Force * Demonstrate reasonable and appropriate application of physical force when necessary to contain or stop a physical threat or assault. * Use effective restraint and safety techniques based on training and situational need. Protective Services * Provide safety escorts to patients, visitors, employees, and others upon request. * Control access to parking and restricted areas, ensuring only authorized vehicles and individuals are permitted. * Patrol McLean property and grounds, identifying and reporting policy violations or safety deficiencies. Access Control Functions * Ensure employees, vendors, and contractors display authorized identification that is clearly visible. * Enforce McLean visitor policies and restrictions. * Restrict access to individuals with no authorized business on McLean property. Dispatch & Console Duties (as assigned) * Coordinate Security activities and serve as liaison to McLean departments and external agencies. * Answer incoming internal and external calls, provide information, and route calls appropriately. * Prioritize and assign responses to incidents and requests for assistance. * Maintain chain of custody for property, evidence, and equipment. * Monitor electronic security and fire systems and report any system failures to the Supervisor. Additional Responsibilities * Perform all duties in accordance with the McLean Policy and Procedure Manual. * Support departmental operations as needed. * Complete other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Manager. Qualifications * Maintain required training and certifications as defined by McLean Hospital. * Strong communication, observation, and decision-making skills. * Commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, and patient safety.
