Overview

Location: Janesville, WI ; Lake Geneva, WI ; Harvard, IL

The Manager of Security is responsible for the daily operations of the Security department, providing leadership and managerial direction. Responsibilities include managing and coordinating the activities of Security personnel, fiscal management of resources, disseminating inter- and intra-departmental communications, review and revision of policies and procedures, preparation and compliance with capital equipment, salary and expense/revenue budgets, assisting the Senior Director in developing and carrying out short and long range goals of the department. Assures compliance with all regulatory agency rules and requirements. Performs liaison activities with other MercyHealth System departments, medical staff and various outside organizations.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Five (5) or more years of security experience, health care related is preferred.
  • Knowledge in The Joint Commission Hospital National Performance Goals, Physical Environment & Emergency Management chapters is preferred.
  • Knowledge of NFPA Life Safety 101 and other related codes preferred.
  • Minimum of Three (3) years supervisory experience required.
  • Candidates with alternative educational backgrounds with more than ten (10) years experience may be considered.
  • Have completed the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Advanced Security Officer Course or certification within 180 days of obtaining position.

Responsibilities:
  • Area of Responsibility: MHTC, Walworth, Harvard area or Freeport, Rockford and Crystal Lake area.
  • Responsible for managing and planning day to day operations of the Security Department, and proactively develop security program to on-going challenges to healthcare security.
  • Responsible for developing good working relationships with area law enforcement agencies, Administration, Risk Management, and internal customer departments (especially clinical care teams).
  • Strong internal and external communications skills with all teams are required. This position is responsible for training, skills validation, monitoring, reporting/ documentation, and supervision of security officers to ensure safety risks for visitor, patients and staff are minimalized.
  • Manages the technology systems within security including key control, access control systems, video surveillance, and technology tools used in security operations.
  • Performs and directs investigations of security related incidents.
  • Performs intermediate and annual performance reviews for applicable security and valet partners.
  • Helps establish operational procedures for Security activities such as security awareness, traffic control, security of physical property, security training, active assailant and other related disciplines.
  • Confers with representatives of leadership to formulate policies, determine need for programs, and coordinate programs with physical plant and patient safety activities.
  • Maintains proficiency with OSHA regulations, NFPA standards, Joint Commission standards and other regulatory agencies having jurisdiction.
  • Conducts pro-active and reactive security assessments and reports on findings to the Senior Director.
  • Monitors and trends reported security incidents and implement performance improvement activities based on such trends.
  • Participate in respective facility Safety Committee. Maintain membership on other committees as assigned.
  • Conduct security training as requested.
  • Travel within the Mercy Health System will be expected.
  • Works closely with other FMES departments on a collaborative basis for consistency and teamwork to establish related tasks and duties.
  • Uses resources rationally in establishing effective and efficient management processes for desired financial results. Establishes appropriate annual budget goals. Manages to achieve budget goals and operating margins. Allocates resources in accord with goals. Establishes and implements alternative plans if forecasts are not on target. Controls expenses. Reports results on a timely basis.
  • Develops and uses effective strategies and interpersonal styles to influence and guide others toward the accomplishment of identified objectives and goals. Establishes measurable and achievable expectations regarding results.
  • Establishes and meets performance improvement goals for department.
  • Conducts effective, on-time, performance appraisals. Provides effective feedback and coaching to improve performance.
  • Maintains technical ability and knowledge base to effectively manage area(s)/department(s). Keeps apprised of trends, developments and/or regulatory changes affecting department(s). Communicates developments or changes with supervisors, peers and subordinates. Maintains current required licensures, certifications or memberships. Seeks out opportunities for professional growth.
