A Brief Overview The Medical Assistant performs routine delegated clinical patient care duties in the health system medical practice to assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensure the office runs smoothly. The delegated tasks are within the supervising physician's scope of practice and consistent with the medical assistant are education, training, and experience.
Must be willing to rotate if needed to other Care Network sites within the designated cluster. Schedule Days & Evenings - latest time shift ends will be 9:00 PM No weekends/holidays 8-hour shifts Monday-Friday What you will do
- Answer phones, greet patients, schedule appointments, and provide patient-centered front-desk support.
- Maintain accurate electronic and paper medical records; update and file documentation as needed.
- Coordinate laboratory services and perform general administrative duties as assigned.
- Obtain and document vital signs, physical measurements, pain screens, and relevant medical history.
- Identify patients in distress and promptly notify the appropriate care team.
- Assist physicians and nursing staff during examinations, procedures, and treatments.
- Collect, prepare, and process laboratory specimens; perform phlebotomy and basic POCT testing per standards.
- Prepare patients for exams, imaging, tests, procedures, and perform EKGs using age-specific standards.
- Administer medications as directed; reinforce patient and family education per physician delegation.
- Maintain infection control, instrument sterilization, safety reporting, and quality control in compliance with policies and scope of practice.
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma / GED Required
- Technical Diploma Medical Assistant Program Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- Experience in a medical office setting Preferred
- At least one (1) year of work experience Preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of exam, diagnostic and treatment room procedures.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to read, understand and respond to detailed oral and written instructions.
- Ability to react and communicate clearly, calmly and effectively.
- Working knowledge of sterile techniques and special procedures that are applicable to work performed.
- Working knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering routine and special treatments to patients.
- Working knowledge of sanitation, personal hygiene and basic health and safety precautions applicable for work in a clinic setting.
- Working knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions.
- Perform care according to age specific competencies.
- Daily clinic preparation process; registration, scheduling, charge posting, order entry.
- Ability to document and communicate pertinent information.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and clinic staff. Ability to work effectively in a team.
Licenses and Certifications
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants, American Medical Technologist, National Center for Competency Testing or National Association for Healthcare Professionals - within 3 months - Required or
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants, American Medical Technologist, National Center for Competency Testing, National Association for Healthcare Professionals, American Registry of Medical Assistants Inc, Healthcare Professionals Registry of the United States, or American Allied Health - within 3 months - Required or
- National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) - National Center for Competency Testing - within 3 months - Required or
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association or National Center for Competency Testing - within 3 months - Required or
- Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) - American Medical Certification Association - within 3 months - Required or
- Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) - National Allied Health Test Registry or National Association for Healthcare Professionals - within 3 months - Required and
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - within 3 months - Required
