Job Profile Summary
The Laser Slitter Operator is responsible for the efficient and safe operation of slitting equipment, ensuring accurate processing of master rolls into finished products while maintaining quality standards. This position requires attention to detail in material handling, waste management, and workspace organization, along with the ability to follow proper procedures for product identification and segregation. This position reports to the Finishing Supervisor. You must be able and willing to work ANY SHIFT, including night shift.

Main Job Objectives:

These objectives describe the characteristic behaviors, actions, and duties required to become an experienced Laser Slitter Operator in the Prescott Valley plant. The associate considered for this position needs to either possess or learn the objectives below.

  • Key Responsibilities:

    • Operate and maintain slitting equipment according to established procedures and safety guidelines, ensuring optimal performance and quality output

    • Executes proper setup procedures for master rolls, including positioning, alignment, and preparation for slitting operations to meet production specifications

    • Ability to follow Ability to follow the Set-up Card / Recipe to precise specifications including Mfg. Instructions per job and Finishing specs

    • Performs splice operations during production runs, maintaining consistent material flow and minimizing downtime

    • Implements comprehensive material management protocols, including accurate identification, segregation, and labeling of work-in-process materials, rewinds, waste materials, and products placed on hold status

    • Coordinates with team members in the safe and efficient removal of processed rolls from rewind positions as production requirements dictate

    • Conducts precise measurement and documentation of startup rolls and materials at the initiation of each job, ensuring all SOC's are followed and accurate production records

    • Trains new and lower-level slitter operators

    • Executes waste management protocols and accurate documentation

    • Manages equipment and tools through proper storage procedures and organizational systems

    • Adheres to all safety protocols, quality standards, and operational procedures

    Education & Experience:

    • High School diploma or equivalent preferred

    • Previous manufacturing experience preferred

    Required Skills:

    • Problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities

    • Ability to read and use measuring tools accurately

    • Strong attention to detail

    • Basic computer proficiency including email

    • Ability to read and write detailed reports

    • Strong organizational skills

    • Effective communication skills

    • Ability to train new operators

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

    Additional Requirements:

    • Must be 18 years of age

    • Must pass pre-employment assessment

    • Drug screening required

    • Background check required

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Knowledge of Upstream Printing Process and equipment

    • Knowledge of chemical safety

    • Knowledge of quality requirements

    • Basic mechanical knowledge of machine components and operations

    • Basic Set up and preparation techniques

    • Knowledge of proper maintenance procedures

    • Familiarity with documentation and reporting systems

    • Equipment operation and maintenance

    • Technical troubleshooting abilities

    • Effective verbal and written communication

    • Basic computer proficiency

    • Time management and organizational skills

    • Attention to detail

    Physical Demands: The associate will be exposed to the manufacturing environment where hazards and requirements may include but are not limited to:

    • Must be able to lift and handle objects weighing up to 50 pounds

    • Capacity to stand and walk for extended periods

    • Ability to climb, kneel, bend, and squat

    • Proficiency in grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine motor skills

    • Ability to wear required PPE (hearing protection, steel-toe shoes, safety glasses)

    • Appropriate material handling certification

    Travel Requirements: Travel is not required in this position.

    Work Conditions: The majority of tasks will be performed in a manufacturing setting with exposure to:

    • Noise levels above 85 dB

    • Operation of complex machinery

    • Solvents, fumes and inks

    • Variable Temperatures

    • Must be able to work flexible shifts

    • May require nights, weekends, and holidays.

    • An additional $2.50/hr premium for hours worked on NIGHT Shift only (qualifying hours vary by location).

    Additional Internal Requirements:

    • Must demonstrate Core Values
    • Must be in good standing with no disciplinary action or attendance issues

    • Must have performer or higher rating in last review

    • Demonstrated sense of urgency in production recovery situations
