Project Manager II

1-Year W2 Contract

Work Arrangement: Hybrid (minimum 3 days per week in office) in Raleigh, NC

Work Hours: 8:00 AM-4:00 PM or 9:00 AM-5:00 PM


ROLE SUMMARY

The Project Manager II (PM II) role has single-point accountability for assigned projects or operates under the general direction of a Project Director or Senior Project Manager. This position is responsible for managing, or supporting the management of, all phases of project planning and execution to ensure successful delivery.

Key success factors include, but are not limited to, scope, schedule, cost, quality, environmental compliance, safety, communications, security, and integration. The PM II is typically assigned a portfolio of low- to moderate-risk projects as defined by an internal, risk-informed project ranking framework.

Projects primarily focus on infrastructure initiatives, including transmission-related work, third-party reimbursable projects, and public-sector coordination efforts.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

The PM II is accountable for a portfolio of assigned projects with low to moderate risk that may impact internal business units, senior leadership, or external agencies. Project assignments may include specific risk-based requirements aligned to the individual's experience and skill set.

The PM II serves as a unifying leader, providing direction, coordination, decision-making, and oversight in accordance with established organizational policies, procedures, systems, and standards.


RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Team Leadership (25%)


  • Create, staff, and lead cross-functional project teams



  • Provide leadership, oversight, delegation, and coordination across internal and external partners, including engineering, project controls, estimating, construction management, supply chain, legal, safety, quality, operations, communications, regulatory, security, and stakeholder engagement functions



  • Guide matrixed team members and interface with functional leaders regarding resource placement, development, and conflict resolution




Stakeholder Communication (25%)


  • Establish and maintain effective communication among project stakeholders



  • Structure, lead, or support project meetings to ensure alignment and transparency



  • Prepare and deliver project kickoff materials and recurring status updates



  • Ensure project plans and reporting mechanisms are developed and communicated in alignment with internal standards and business unit procedures



  • Communicate effectively with management and governance teams




Project Planning (25%)


  • Lead and champion comprehensive project planning efforts, including scope definition, estimating, schedule development, cost control, procurement and contracting strategies, vendor selection, equipment planning, startup and commissioning, and system integration




Project Execution (25%)


  • Execute projects in accordance with approved scope, schedule, and budget



  • Oversee all project components, including objectives, stakeholder management, roles and responsibilities, assumptions and constraints, deliverables, work breakdown structures, schedules, regulatory strategy, procurement and contractor strategy, resource planning, budgeting, risk management, quality, safety, environmental, security, communications, data management, change management, lessons learned, and project closeout




REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelor's degree



  • Minimum of 5 years of project management experience




    • (9 years of project management experience may be considered in lieu of a degree)





  • Experience with transmission engineering and/or infrastructure project management




PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Demonstrated proficiency or expertise in project management, decision-making, critical thinking, and problem solving



  • Experience in risk management, project leadership, collaboration, and oversight



  • Experience within utility, energy, or infrastructure-focused business units



  • Construction management knowledge



  • Proficiency in project scheduling and cost controls



  • Master's degree in Project Management or Business Administration



  • Experience with transmission grid planning, interconnection agreements, and third-party coordination




PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS


  • Project Management Professional (PMP)



  • Professional Engineer (PE)



  • Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)




The pay for this W-2 position ranges from $68-$74 per hour. This position may be eligible for PTO, health and dental insurance, and/or 401(k) benefits upon meeting certain length of service and hours requirements.
