Hospital Lab Technician 1

This position supports the department mission through the functions of specimen receipt, accessioning, preparation and processing for analysis on various body fluids and tissues. Functions also include equipment maintenance, supply inventory and ordering, clerical duties and quality assurance in the pre-analytical area of the clinical laboratory.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

• CA Driver's License
• Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
• Laboratory specimen handling, processing, storage, and shipping requirements.
• Clerical duties, data entry, and telephones.
• Knowledge of laboratory specimen handling, processing, storage, and shipping requirements to meet policy, procedure, and regulatory requirements.
• Knowledge of computer systems such as EMR, email, hospital Incident Reporting system (e.g., RL Solutions), and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of LIS sufficient to perform specimen inquiry and other functions (batching, test cancellation, printing orders and specimen labels, etc.).
• Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and to exercise appropriate judgment when setting priorities.
• Ability complete work to meet required turnaround times, suspense dates and deadlines.
• Adequate familiarity with medical terminology (test names, specimen types, patient diagnoses,etc.)
• Possess effective verbal communication skills to answer questions from internal and external customers in clear and concise manner.
• Possess written communication skills to write clear emails, EMR messages, and reports and to convey information appropriately.

Department Overview

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is a large, diverse multi-site department whose mission is to create a healthier world through bold innovation in patient care, population health, education, technology and research. This position sets the highest standards for professionalism and competency in providing high quality patient-centered diagnostic and therapeutic care, customer service, and education to patients within UCDHS and its affiliates. Our laboratories are licensed by the State of California, certified by CLIA, accredited by College of American Pathologists (CAP), AABB, and Foundation for Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), and located in three distinct facilities: Surgery and Emergency Services Pavilion (SESP); Pathology Building; and the Specialty Testing Center (STC). The department is one of UCDMC's largest ancillary services departments. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine's mission is to provide high quality patient/physician services, to maintain the excellence of the educational programs, and to perform scholarly research and development. These objectives are to be met within the limits of resources available with emphasis on cost effectiveness and innovation.

Work Environment
