Polar Supply Yard Supervisor - A Leadership Role with Statewide Impact and High Visibility

What We Do

Step into a leadership position where your impact goes beyond the store. As the Yard Supervisor at Polar Supply Company, you'll manage a critical hub of operations at one of our high-profile locations, directly beneath the offices of Alaska's corporate leadership and administrative team. This yard is a focal point for corporate visits and plays a key role in our statewide distribution network. Working at Polar Supply you will support Spenard Builders Supply, the largest LBM supplier in Alaska along with our parent company, Builders FirstSource, the largest in the nation. Your work will help keep materials moving across Alaska and contribute to a network that supplies construction materials throughout the state.

What You'll Do

  • Lead & Grow: Manage and mentor yard staff, guiding them in loading, unloading, and material movement using advanced equipment and machinery while fostering professional growth and team development.
  • Champion Safety & Training: Ensure team members are properly trained, certified, and maintain a culture of safety and compliance.
  • Drive Operational Excellence: Oversee receiving, storage, and shipping processes, ensuring accuracy and adherence to instructions and requirements.
  • Hands-On Leadership: Occasionally roll up your sleeves and work alongside your team to keep operations running smoothly by setting the high standard with demonstrating how it's done.
  • Customer Engagement: Assist both internal and external customers with load building, delivery status updates, and inventory inquiries-be the go-to for answers.
  • Logistics Coordination: Scheduling and coordinating incoming and outgoing truck, air, and barge freight to keep our statewide distribution network running efficiently. Preparing and reconciling shipping documents, including hazmat declarations.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify hazards, recommend safety enhancements, and maintain a clean, organized yard environment.
  • Team Development: Provide on-the-job training, share product knowledge, and help retain new employees by providing a path to success.

The Opportunity

This isn't just a supervisory position; it's a career entry opportunity with statewide impact. You'll lead a team at a location that draws attention from top leadership and corporate visitors, while ensuring the smooth flow of materials for Alaska's largest building supply operations. Your ability to coordinate logistics and maintain operational excellence will make you a key player in a company that supplies materials for roads, bridges, runways, ports, homes and entire communities across Alaska.
