Job Summary
This Manager, Products & Services will directly oversee the management of our regulated energy efficiency (EE) products, programs, and services offered to business customers across the Midwest and Carolinas jurisdictions, including P&L responsibility. The Business EE portfolio promotes customer adoption of energy efficiency behaviors and equipment through facility audits, operational optimization, deep retrofits of existing buildings, and efficient design for new construction. These engagements typically involve a high level of engagement and coordination with internal teams that support the customers from concept to completion, and with external parties that implement these projects behind the meter. This position provides leadership, management, supervision and guidance to a team that typically has < 12 employees, < 12 vendor contracts that provide technology, equipment and staffing needed for successful execution, and is accountable for a budget of < $50M.
Responsibilities
Portfolio Growth Leadership
- Analyze and understand market feedback. Set strategies and plans accordingly that create sharp focus on customer needs and wants.
- Drive enhancements to replace mature offers and build long-term growth, working with Product Development and other internal partners. Provide direction to ensure customer needs are satisfied, financial goals met and align with the long-term vision and roadmap for Products & Services, Customer Load Management, and Energy Efficiency overall.
- Identify new product opportunities and exit strategies for non-performing/ underperforming products.
- Investigate and test new technologies, delivery channels and product extensions.
Portfolio Management Leadership
- Accountable for meeting jurisdiction-level P&L, customer satisfaction and regulatory objectives for product, program & service portfolio. Appropriately allocate budget and deployment of resources to meet goals and comply with state-level commitments.
- Develop, communicate and execute annual product plans, market and segment plans to deliver energy and demand savings goals. Deliver plans within regulatory filing budgets and audit governance. Lead internal teams to achieve annual goals.
- Establish organizational guidelines on how the team and individuals interact, collaborate, and resolve conflicts in a manner that creates a productive and respectful environment.
- Support and develop job-relevant competencies with individuals on the team; encourage and coach on individual professional development.
- Provide tactical directions to the team that will meet customer satisfaction and regulatory objectives for product, program & service portfolio.
- Lead continuous improvement efforts to increase effectiveness of internal work processes and internal/external customer enrollment channels including virtual, phone-based, online and direct to customer approaches to offer customers lower cost, and more convenient service channels. Measure and demonstrate results.
- Collaborate with internal partners to develop timely and relevant Price / Value / Efficiency campaigns and communications priorities. Establish plans, set objectives, measure and analyze performance, and demonstrate influence on customer satisfaction.
- Actively engage with partners in development of future regulatory filings, including appropriate mix and expectations of products.
Direct development of performance goals and tracking systems to monitor Key Performance Indicators.

- Customer Satisfaction: Develop, communicate, execute and adjust market plans to achieve at least top quartile satisfaction targets.
Represent Duke Energy and program promotion externally in public forums, workshops, state regulatory collaboratives, industry forums, etc.
- Program Awareness: Evaluate opportunities and execute public relations and promotional initiatives to increase Duke Energy brand awareness and customer advocacy
- Serves as Duke Energy representative on industry local, regional and national boards and forums
- Form strategic partnerships with industry groups, community leaders and product vendors to support development and demonstration of products and services.
- Maintain awareness of legislative, regulatory activities, codes and standards.
Integrate with Strategy, Regulatory, Communications and other internal company groups to ensure products and services align with and enhance corporate strategy
- Stay current with corporate strategies and investments
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of operating company strategies and business plans, along with regulatory requirements of each state.
- Use new technical platforms for product and service offerings where feasible
Basic/Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, engineering, marketing, or other related degree.
- In addition to bachelor's degree, five (5) years minimum of related work experience.
- In lieu of bachelor's degree, high school diploma/GED AND twelve (12) years minimum of related work experience.
Desired Qualifications
- Track record of achieving significant results when implementing strategies and improvements in energy efficiency or adjacent businesses such as clean energy, transportation electrification, renewable energy, sustainability, solar, green spaces, etc.
- Excellent leadership and managerial skills demonstrated, including big picture thinking.
- Working knowledge of P&L financials unique to energy efficiency programs
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills including communications skills, presentation skills, conflict resolution and management skills, excellent leadership skills and good facilitation skills at all levels, both internally and externally to Duke Energy
- Demonstrated knowledge of technology product offerings and solutions
- Demonstrated analytical, problem solving and/or financial evaluation skills
- Ability to make decisions and execute with limited information
- Ability to develop and execute short-range and long-range market plans
- Ability to effectively manage third party resources/vendors.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects.
- Self-directed, highly motivated team leader.
- Demonstrated ability in product development, product management or market management.
- Proven negotiation ability, influence and conflict resolution skills of others without direct control.
- Working knowledge of competitive marketplace.

- Broad utility company knowledge and operational experience - ten or more years - in the following disciplines: customer account management, utility operations, customer service, marketing, governmental relations and/or economic development.
- Ability to effectively handle highly stressful situations.
- Sales, marketing and/or customer service relationship experience within industry.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software tools.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new systems.
Working Conditions
- Hybrid mobility classification - work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the posted reporting location.
