Experienced Marine Surveyor

Primary Purpose

We are seeking an experienced Heavy Civil / Marine Infrastructure Surveyor to support complex, large-scale marine and heavy civil construction projects. This role is critical to ensuring accurate layout, alignment, elevations, and quantities for marine projects.

The Surveyor will work closely with project management, field supervision, engineers, and subcontractors to maintain precise survey control and deliver safe, high-quality infrastructure projects.

Essential Job Functions



  • Perform construction surveying and layout for heavy civil and marine projects, including horizontal and vertical control
  • Establish and maintain survey control networks, benchmarks, and reference points
  • Execute hydrographic, bathymetric, and topographic surveys as required
  • Conduct layout for:

    • Bridge foundations, piers, and abutments
    • Pile driving and marine structures
    • Cofferdams and temporary works
    • Dredging limits and quantities


  • Verify elevations, grades, alignments, and tolerances per contract documents
  • Prepare and review as-built surveys, quantity calculations, and progress measurements
  • Utilize survey equipment such as total stations, GPS/GNSS, robotic instruments, and digital levels
  • Interpret plans, specifications, and engineering drawings
  • Coordinate survey activities with project teams to support construction sequencing and schedules
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements, DOT standards, and quality control procedures
  • Maintain accurate survey records, field notes, and digital files
  • Support claims, change orders, and progress reporting through accurate survey data



Required Qualifications



  • 5+ years of experience in heavy civil and/or marine construction surveying
  • Proven experience on marine, bridge, or other heavy civil infrastructure projects
  • Strong working knowledge of:

    • Construction layout and control
    • GPS/GNSS and robotic total station systems
    • Hydrographic or bathymetric surveying (preferred)


  • Ability to read and interpret civil, structural, and marine drawings
  • Experience working in active construction environments, including over water
  • Strong math, geometry, and spatial reasoning skills
  • Proficiency with common survey software (e.g., Trimble Business Center, Carlson, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or similar)
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to pass an oral swab drug test



Preferred Qualifications



  • Marine construction or heavy bridge project experience
  • Experience with pile layout, dredging quantities, and cofferdam surveys
  • DOT project experience



Work Environment and Physical Requirements



  • Outdoor, field-based role in marine and heavy construction settings
  • Work may include exposure to water, varying weather conditions, and rugged terrain
  • Requires physical ability to traverse construction sites and marine platforms
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, kneel, crawl, stoop and/or sit
  • Must be able to tolerate heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels
  • Must be able to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies and parts up to 50 lbs. unassisted
