Director of Technical Accounting

ORBIS is seeking a technically skilled and strategically minded Director of Technical Accounting to oversee the company's financial compliance, technical accounting guidance, and system-level financial oversight. This role is essential in maintaining the technical accuracy of our financial statements, supporting international operations, and ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP, IFRS (where applicable), and regulatory frameworks relevant to our domestic and global business. This position works in close collaboration with the CFO, Vice President, Controller, and cross-functional teams to strengthen the company's financial infrastructure and support scalable growth. The position will additionally lead and manage the month end close.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Provide subject matter expertise on complex accounting topics including ASC 606 revenue recognition, SaaS accounting, lease accounting (ASC 842), capitalization rules, and Section 174 compliance.
  • Interpret and implement guidance related to U.S. GAAP and IFRS for multinational operations, including foreign subsidiaries, joint ventures, and foreign exchange exposure.
  • Oversee and guide the preparation of consolidated financial statements across domestic and international entities.
  • Evaluate and document accounting treatment for intercompany transactions, foreign currency contracts, and translation of foreign financial statements.
  • Advise on structuring international transactions and contracts to ensure financial reporting accuracy and compliance with local and global accounting rules.
  • Lead the design and enforcement of financial policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with internal controls and audit standards. Provide training to the broader finance organization.
  • Own the financial close, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to ensure timely, accurate financial reporting by validating the proper treatment of complex transactions while leading the team to meet deadlines.
  • Lead and support financial system implementations and upgrades, including configuration decisions that support global reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate and support internal and external audit efforts, ensuring accurate documentation and timely resolution of issues.
  • Collaborate with tax, legal, and operations teams on accounting implications of global expansion, including statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare consolidated financial statements, including supporting schedules and variance analyses.
  • Oversee A/R, journal entries, and reconciliations.
  • System Administrator for Deltek Costpoint (must be proficient in system)
  • Collaborate with Vice President, Controller on initiatives, projects and needs of the organization.


Supervisory Responsibilities

Required Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline; CPA a plus.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a technical accounting or leadership role.
  • Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP and IFRS; proven experience interpreting and applying complex standards.
  • 5+ years of experience with Deltek Costpoint, consider themselves an expert. Familiarity with related financial and ERP systems. Experience with financial system implementations.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting global operations, including foreign currency transactions, international accounting requirements, and multi-entity consolidations.
  • Familiarity with international statutory audits, IFRS reporting, and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with government contracting and related compliance frameworks (FAR, CAS, DCAA).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Detail-oriented, highly analytical, and able to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.


Physical Requirements



  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Routine video conference and/or in-person meetings.
  • Ability to attend planned meetings within the Washington Metro Area region.
