Compensation: We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The hourly range for this position is $28.50 to $30.14 and may be commensurate with experience.

SOME (So Others Might Eat) is looking for a Service Technician - Special Projects to provide support within our Facilities Management department.

Position Description: The Service Technician - Special Projects will perform the duties necessary to keep the physical structure and associated equipment of the locations in good repair. This includes but is not limited to project, preventative, emergency, corrective, and routine repairs in electrical, mechanical, fire/life safety, plumbing, and HVAC equipment. Responsibilities also include painting/carpenter duties as directed to maintain the interior and exterior physical structure of the building

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm. (Full-time, 40 hours per week)

Required: HS Degree/GED; 3-5 yrs. Facilities Management experience in multi-site housing or residential facilities

Preferred: HS Degree/GED; 3-5 yrs. Facilities Management and (1-3 years) renovation project experience in multi-site housing or residential facilities.

Required License/Certification: Must possess and maintain a valid vehicle and driver's license with an insurable driving record history to obtain and maintain employment. The vehicle should be safe and reliable (mileage will be reimbursed).

Skills & Abilities:



  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision at times.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Advanced craftsman skills in painting and carpentry repairs
  • Strong knowledge and experience in electrical systems, plumbing, mechanical equipment, as well as in the maintenance of these types of systems
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to utilize a computer or SOME SOME-provided cellular phone to retrieve calls, voice mails, texts, and work orders


Expected Contributions: Facilities Services



  • Ensure that building systems are being operated safely and efficiently as intended and in compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Timely completion of turnovers and renovations associated with residential housing while meeting housing inspection requirements and quality inspection of the supervisor
  • Purchase material, maintain inventory, and required recordkeeping (including receipts) needed for repairs, maintenance, and special projects.
  • Provide special project support in the area of carpentry, painting, interior/exterior handywork, mechanical, plumbing, and some electrical work while meeting DCRA and other regulatory and supervisor inspection requirements
  • Work with the Facilities Compliance Project Manager to identify and communicate potential site conditions related to projects that could be disruptive to Housing and/or other Program business continuity.
  • Apply safe-working practices for personal protection and safety of those in SOME buildings.
  • May at times be asked to support maintenance and repair services with other team members when not dedicated to a special project.
  • Complete work order information in the work order system (eMaintenance) within the Project schedule and completed/closed within 2 workdays of job completion.
  • On call rotation with the Facilities Technician team and able to respond after-hours, if needed.


Environmental Working Conditions: The employee works indoors and outdoors in accessing and performing maintenance and repair functions involving buildings, facilities, and equipment. The employee drives to and from different locations and is exposed to outside weather conditions, traffic, hot and cold surfaces and work areas, moisture, wetness, dust, oils, greases, fumes, and mechanical and electrical hazards. The employee works with various cleaning agents. The noise level is loud when the employee is operating power tools and equipment.

Reports to: Facilities Compliance Project Manager

Position Designation: This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. You may be subject to drug testing before or during your employment with SOME. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to use their hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with their hands and arms. Employees are required to frequently stand and walk in work areas and occasionally sit while completing records and reports, and talk and hear. Employees are expected to stoop, squat, crawl, and work within confined physical spaces. Employees may climb stairs, ladders, or small stools, and lift and carry parts, supplies, and equipment, typically weighing less than 40 pounds.
