Position Title Life Sciences Laboratory Staff
FLSA Non-Exempt
FT/PT Part Time
Hours Per Week Up to 25
Work Schedule Monday-Friday
Position Salary Range $16 hourly
Summary
The life science department runs roughly 65 laboratory sections of various science classes, providing materials for almost 1,500 students each semester. Lab staff provide essential support to lab managers, instructors and course coordinators by maintaining lab cleanliness, preparing samples and equipment, and ensuring smooth daily operations to facilitate classroom experiments.
Essential Role Responsibilities
* Prepare, label, and organize various samples and media for classroom and student use
* Clean, sterilize and maintain laboratory spaces and the equipment they contain
* Stock and manage inventory of laboratory supplies and chemical solutions
* Perform basic laboratory tests and quality control and assist with more complex tests
* Follow strict aseptic and chemical hygiene and laboratory safety protocols
* Dispose of hazardous materials according to regulations
* Assist with data entry and basic administrative tasks
Minimum Education Required High School or equivalent
Experience Required
Preferred Experience
* High School Diploma and 18 years of age required, some college coursework in life science field preferred
* Strong organizational skills
* Attention to detail
* Ability to work independently and part of a team
* Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures and safety standards is preferred but not required
Physical Demand Summary
Ability to lift 75lbs from the ground to 36" with assistance.
