The Financial Analyst - Operations serves as a key liaison between Finance and Operations, ensuring the integrity of financial data while supporting efficient and profitable manufacturing and supply chain activities. Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role provides detailed cost analysis, inventory valuation, and variance reporting to enable informed decision making across the organization.

This position plays a critical role in maintaining accurate product costing, improving gross margin visibility, and supporting budgeting, forecasting, and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical skills with a hands-on understanding of manufacturing and operational processes, acting as a trusted business partner to operations leadership.

What You'll Do

Cost Analysis & Reporting

  • Prepare, analyze, and distribute cost reports, including purchasing, production, labor, and overhead variances.
  • Investigate and explain variances between standard and actual costs at the product, job, and order level.
  • Maintain and update cost accounting methodologies, standards, and documentation to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Support gross margin analysis and profitability reporting across product lines.

Inventory & Cost of Goods Sold Management

  • Monitor and validate inventory valuation for raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods.
  • Reconcile inventory balances and cost of goods sold, ensuring accurate financial reporting in accordance with company policies and GAAP.
  • Partner with operations and supply chain teams to improve inventory accuracy, turnover, and controls.
  • Support periodic physical inventory counts and cycle counts, ensuring proper execution, reconciliation of variances and timely resolution.

Financial Close & Planning

  • Prepare journal entries and complete balance sheet account reconciliations related to inventory, accruals, and manufacturing costs.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting direct costs and manufacturing period expenses.
  • Analyze trends and provide insights to support financial planning and resource allocation decisions.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Act as a financial business partner to operations and supply chain teams, identifying cost drivers and opportunities for efficiency gains.
  • Prepare and present recurring operational and cost performance reports for management review.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by providing data-driven insights and post-implementation financial analysis.
  • Assist with audits related to inventory, costing, and operational controls.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Serve as backup support for bi-weekly payroll processing, including preparation of related journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Train and support staff on cost-related processes, systems, and reporting as needed.
  • Participate in special projects and ad hoc financial analysis as assigned.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with databases preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and meet critical deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills required.
  • Experience in a dynamic, fast-paced environment is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Related Field.
  • 2+ years of cost accounting or manufacturing accounting experience
