Posting Summary
Outstanding applicants are desired for a Part-Time Lecturer ( PTL) teaching position as Co-Course Director for a graduate level Microbiology and Immunology course for master's students in the biomedical sciences for the Spring semester. The Co-Course Director will work collaboratively with the Course Director to support the planning, delivery, assessment, and continuous improvement of the Microbiology and Immunology course. Responsibilities are aligned with graduate medical sciences education standards. The successful candidate(s) will perform the following services associated with that course:
* Collaborate with the Course Director to design, review, and update course content, with an emphasis on quantitative, data-driven, and analytical approaches.
* Use established educational research practices to strengthen learning objectives, assessment strategies, and outcome evaluation.
* Provide operational support for course-related instructional technology, including Canvas-based course organization and management.
* Lead and support the use of secure computer-based assessment platforms (e.g., ExamSoft) for examination delivery, grading, item analysis, and score reporting.
* Support lecture capture and recording as needed to ensure accessibility and instructional continuity.
* Participate in exam proctoring and oversight of student assistants to maintain academic integrity.
* Attend lectures and provide constructive feedback to enhance instructional quality and alignment with stated learning objectives.
* Assist in the development and facilitation of structured review sessions prior to examinations.
* Support the supervision and coordination of student assistants and instructional support personnel.
* Contribute to the development of quizzes, examinations, grading rubrics, and standardized feedback mechanisms.
* Share responsibility for grading oversight, moderation, and feedback to ensure consistency, fairness, and adherence to academic standards.
* Review and analyze student performance data in collaboration with the Course Director to inform curricular and assessment improvements.
* Provide mentoring and academic support to students, as appropriate.
* Ensure course content aligns with program-level academic goals and current developments in microbiology, immunology, and public health microbiology.
* Assist with the coordination of guest lecturers and the organization of lecture topics, as needed.
* Review and update course materials to reflect advances in microbial biology and immunology, with particular attention to quantitative and analytical aspects.
* Co-teach selected lectures, as appropriate and in coordination with the Course Director.
* Collaborate with teaching faculty and administrative staff to manage course logistics, scheduling, and communication.
* Collect, review, and incorporate student feedback to refine instructional methods and course structure.
The successful candidate(s) must:

  • Have rigorous quantitative bioscience background with 20+ years of experience to complement current Course Director's expertise.
  • Have 15+ years of educational research experience at the graduate level in biosciences, publishing manuscripts and delivering bioquantitative course material to graduate students
  • Have extensive, state-of-the-art, computer experience to take the lead for technical issues for course

Minimum Education and Experience
The successful candidate(s) must hold a PhD degree in quantitative biology (e.g. biophysics). Candidates must have 20+ years of quantitative bioscience experience, 15+ years of graduate level educational research and current state-of-the art computer experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent quantitative, teaching, computer, communication and interpersonal skills are a prerequisite. Prior teaching experience or evidence of teaching effectiveness is required.
