Position Description

You will facilitate the manufacturing process and contribute to cost containment objectives through the management of the manufacturing, process, tools and equipment within corporate quality, safety and regulatory standards. You will also ensure all safety procedures are in place and are being followed by employees. Coordinate with engineering staff and other supervisors to set priorities for projects and ensure they are met.

You will be responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting the manufacturing process at a supervisory level. All manufacturing engineers, Manufacturing engineering specialists and maintenance supervisor will report to this position.

The Engineering Department provides production with the necessary equipment, tooling, processes, etc. This department plans, installs, designs, builds and/or maintains new equipment to enable production to manufacture a quality product at optimum cost. In addition, the department provides process troubleshooting and prepares quality corrective actions. The supervisor recommends new technologies for use in projects based on cost, safety, efficiency, and other considerations.

The Supervisor selects, procures and installs (or builds, when required) all equipment, machinery and tools for work areas, special jigs, fixtures, material handling devices, etc. In effect, the Supervisor establishes the method used for producing the entire plant product line. The Supervisor prepares weekly reports on standards, plant and departmental efficiency and utilization, maintenance activities and engineering projects. The Supervisor prepares and coordinates AFEs. Supervisor monitors work of engineering staff to ensure they are adhering to plans and specifications.

You will receive technical guidance and assistance from corporate staff. The majority of the activities require responding to situations requiring individual judgment, although most activities are covered by policies or procedures. You may provide technical guidance to the quality control and production regarding manufacturing related issues and to personnel with regard to OSHA compliance.

The Supervisor has supervisory responsibility for employees including hire, attendance, productivity, performance evaluation, coaching, discipline and discharge activities (with concurrence of the Plant Manager & Plant Human Resources Manager) and salary planning.

Internal contacts are required with all staff members, production supervisors, hourly maintenance and production employees. Numerous external contacts are required to evaluate equipment, tools, or vendors for major expense projects. Occasional travel is required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise, initiate and/or implement cost savings related to plant layout, new equipment andtooling.
  • Monitor plant and departmental efficiencies and utilization.
  • Maintain equipment and tooling within safety and environmental standards.
  • Provide leadership and direction to departmental staff; evaluate staff performance tomaximize use of staff talents and abilities to reach plant objectives.
  • Responsible for plant compliance with OSHA, insurance carriers, and state air and waterpollution control boards.
  • Estimate and maintain a viable standards program
  • Prepare annual capital expenditures, deferred tool and major expense budgets andcoordinate procurement.
  • Develop and maintain a standards program including labor standards and process sheets for tooling, equipment, layouts, capacity studies and plant production methods.
Required Education & Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or industrial technology, or a related field, is required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in engineering within a manufacturing environment, with at least 1 year of experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Experience within a lean manufacturing environment is highly preferred.
  • Experience with HVAC or thermodynamics is highly preferred.
