The Department of French and Francophone Studies (FFS) at Davidson College invites applications for a position of Visiting Assistant Professor in French and Francophone studies to begin July 1, 2026. This is a two-year, non-tenure track position carrying a 5-course teaching load per year, which includes a mix of beginner and intermediate language classes, as well as upper-level courses in French. We are looking for a Francophone Humanist or Social Scientist whose work explores the artistic, literary, cultural, and historical expressions in one or several of the following areas: the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean, the Pacific, or Vietnam. An additional expertise in digital humanities, diaspora and migration studies is strongly encouraged. A PhD in French and Francophone Studies or a related field is required by start date, as well as command of French and English at a near-native proficiency level. The successful candidate will demonstrate an inclusive, student-centered and engaging teaching style, and a strong commitment to communicative language teaching in the context of a small liberal arts college. Apply online only at http://employment.davidson.edu. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled, but preference will be given to those who apply by February 15, 2026. Inquiries may be sent to Dr. Florin Beschea, Chair, at flbeschea@davidson.edu. Please include 1) a cover letter that addresses your inclusive teaching philosophy for both language and upper-level content courses, and 2) a curriculum vitae containing the names and contact information for three references in your application. Letters of recommendation and a writing sample (article or chapter length) will be requested after an initial screening. Please note that one recommendation letter should speak directly to the candidate's teaching. Applications are due by February 15, 2026. For any additional information or questions, candidates may contact the department chair Dr. Florin Beschea. | |
