Our Philadelphia office is seeking a Project Manager with experience in water / wastewater design. Our Philadelphia office supports a broad spectrum of public and private clients. In this position, you will work alongside other professional engineers on water, wastewater, and/or green stormwater projects in the Pennsylvania, Maryland, Washington DC, and Virginia areas. We are looking for people who can function as role models and ambassadors for Mott MacDonald, articulating and representing the brand, vision, and value proposition internally and externally.

Role purpose:

This position will lead and manage a variety of our water, wastewater, and green stormwater infrastructure projects across the Mid-Atlantic region, supporting our expanding service offerings.

The primary purpose of this role is to provide project management and technical leadership, overseeing the development of design drawings and specifications, and ensuring successful project delivery from planning through construction.

This experienced position focuses on managing multidisciplinary teams, maintaining client relationships, and delivering high-quality, cost-effective solutions for complex infrastructure projects.

Our team supports some of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in North America, including:



  • PWD Northern Liberties Flood Relief Project (NLFRP) - Multi-phase flood relief program for the Northern Liberties neighborhood, involving design and construction of ~5,000 feet of varied-size concrete box sewer (up to 11'x12'), equalization/junction chambers, and control structures to regulate dry and wet weather flows.
  • PAWC Lake Scranton Transmission Main Rehabilitation - Evaluation and rehabilitation of a leaking 48-inch transmission main within a 4,300-foot mountain tunnel. Recommended and delivered sliplining with a 42-inch HDPE pipe, restoring reliable service, reducing operational risk, and minimizing community and environmental impacts



Responsibilities of the position will include but not be limited to the following:



  • Manage and execute a combination of water, wastewater, and green stormwater infrastructure projects. Projects will include a variety of planning, design, and construction phase work
  • Manage multidisciplinary design teams of planning and/or design engineering projects, supervising and coordinating several assignments simultaneously
  • Establish and periodically review scope, schedule and budgets for projects and review progress against a baseline


We invite applications from candidates with the following experience:



  • B.S. degree in civil, environmental, chemical, or mechanical engineering is required
  • M.S. degree in civil or environmental engineering a plus
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in water, wastewater, and/or stormwater-related projects
  • PE or ability to obtain within one year in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is required
  • A successful candidate will be a self-starter with ability to lead and manage people and projects
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills with demonstrated ability to conduct effective presentations and prepare written reports and documents
  • Strong technical skills and technical leadership experience, preferably in water or wastewater linear infrastructure, AutoCAD Civil3D, and green stormwater design
  • At least one year managing projects, including management of project budgets, schedules, staff, and client interface
