We are seeking a dedicated professional to join our Mortgage Operations team as a Mortgage Closer! The Mortgage Closer is primarily responsible for supporting mortgage lenders through efficient preparation of closing packages and booking of client loan files. The role includes data collection and review, closing document preparation, loan disbursement, and booking.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Performs a review of the loan file upon receipt from the mortgage production specialist for compliance with regulatory and file documentation requirements. Notifies and works with the mortgage lender and production specialist on any deficiencies.
  • Initiates and maintains contact with mortgage lenders, clients, title companies and other third parties throughout the closing period, assisting them with any questions and notifying them of any additional information required.
  • Responsible for the issue of compliant disclosures within required timeframes to borrowers during the closing period. Including but not limited to the initial and final closing disclosures.
  • Follows up on any outside services such as title insurance, flood determination, etc. to ensure liens, judgments and insurance requirements are addressed prior to or at closing as appropriate.
  • Proactively orders and obtains payoffs and insurance premium billings/binders to meet closing timeframes.
  • Works closely with title companies in exchanging information necessary to complete accurate final closing disclosures.
  • Completes verbal verification of employment within the required timeframe.
  • Assembles a completely documented electronic and paper file for closing within established timeframes. Submits the loan through all investor systems used to audit file data accuracy for loans to be sold on the secondary market. For example, Loan Quality Advisor (LQA) and Loan Closing Advisor for Freddie Mac loans. Reviews the results of each system and makes any needed corrections to ensure accurate data for loan delivery.
  • Prepares and coordinates all necessary documentation for loan closing. Responsible for ensuring all loan conditions are satisfied and the loan meets all applicable investor and regulatory requirements.
  • Performs a post-closing review of closing documentation ensuring all applicable documents are present, signed and dated properly by all parties.
  • Completes loan booking including accurately uploading the loan to the host loan processing system, making all appropriate disbursements including wires, executing proper filing of necessary security documents, and completing the loan data sheet as necessary.
  • Review closed loan documents and eFolders to ensure 100% ready to move over to Director
  • Develop and maintain a supportive team relationship within the retail mortgage dept. (both origination and processing), to ensure the processing, closing and post-closing processes are functioning optimally and effectively. Work closely with lenders on closing issues to support their origination efforts.
  • Protects all confidential information obtained on the job by safeguarding it when in use, filing it properly when not in use, disposing of it properly and discussing it only with those who have a legitimate business need to know.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned or requested

Adhere to all Bank Security/Compliance Regulations

  • Complete all annual bank security and compliance training.
  • Adhere to Bank Security/compliance and policy guidelines for commercial loan area.
  • Maintain confidentiality of customer information at all times.
  • Stay current on all compliance regulations required through training and education.

Other Responsibilities

  • Keep lines of communication open by acting as a liaison between clients, Mortgage Loan Officers, underwriters and other bank personnel.
  • Participate in bank and department meetings.
  • Represent the bank in professional and community activities.
  • Partner effectively across all levels of the organization and develop positive working relationships.
  • Continually develop knowledge, skills, and abilities through internal and external training programs.

Requirements
  • Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar designation and/or 1 to 3 years equivalent work experience in a similar position required
  • Previous experience in banking or financial institution setting and/or mortgage preferred
  • Understanding of mortgage loan documentation and of state and federal regulations related to mortgage loans.
  • Well-developed verbal/written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point with the ability and willingness to learn new programs and software
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent follow-up skills and the ability to work efficiently and accurately
  • Self-starter that can manage multiple priorities simultaneously and work in a fast-paced/deadline driven environment
  • Willing team player with the ability to put forth the extra effort necessary to make the office a successful operation including the willingness to put in extra time when needed and/or to attend required & recommended outside educational programs, seminars, etc.
  • Ability to maintain confidential customer information.
  • Ability to read, write, understand and speak English clearly
  • Ability to represent the organization in a professional, positive manner
