The Opportunity

The Lead Accountant for the TC Energy USPL Pipelines Accounting and Financial Reporting team will have the opportunity to work on a variety of general accounting and financial reporting duties associated with regulated midstream natural gas pipelines in a highly focused team environment. While primarily providing accounting support to regulatory accounting, they will have the opportunity to collaborate with talented people and make a valuable contribution to the organization.

This position within U.S. Pipelines Accounting will report to the Accounting Manager and is under the collaborative supervision of experienced accounting team leads.

What you'll do

  • Support the preparation, review, and filing of regulatory FERC Form 2 annual and Form 3Q quarterly reports

  • Actively participate in FERC rate case proceedings, including data gathering, analysis, and responding to data requests

  • Support the preparation and review of quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with US GAAP and related analysis/reports

  • Prepare and/or review monthly recurring and adjusting journal entries

  • Help in the development and training of staff level accountants

  • Prepare and/or review monthly general ledger account analysis

  • Perform and/or oversee in depth analysis and reconciliations of balance sheet accounts

  • Ensure items identified in reconciliations are resolved/corrected in a timely manner

  • Prepare and/or review reports documenting explanations and analysis of significant or unusual variances in actual results frombudget, forecasts and prior periods

  • Prepare key financial information for TC Energy corporate reporting group to enable complete and accurate disclosure of its regulatory quarterly and annual filings

  • Coordinate responses to external and internal audit requests

  • Update, maintain and test procedures and documentation to meet departmental Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements

  • Identify areas in need of accounting research

  • Participate in special projects

  • Shadow or assist other team members and perform back-up roles to key functions performed by U.S. Pipelines Accounting

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting

  • Minimum 6 years of accounting experience

  • Intellectual curiosity and superior analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Enjoys being on a team, working with and collaborating with others

  • Proactively seeks and embraces feedback, with desire to grow in role

  • Strict organizational skills with ability to manage multiple tasks effectively

  • Ability to work independently and make decisions with limited guidance

  • Excellent communicator, both verbal and written

  • Open to potential rotational opportunities contingent upon availability and consistent, high performance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with FERC regulated accounting and rate case proceedings

  • Experience with or direct knowledge of SAP and BPC

  • Experience with financial reporting and SOX experience

  • CPA or CPA eligible (e.g., 150 hours to sit for the CPA exam in Texas)

  • Public accounting experience

  • Oil and gas industry experience
