From your PASSION to ours

Lactalis US Yogurt, part of the Lactalis family of companies, is currently hiring a Safety Specialist based in Londonderry, NH.

The Safety Specialist will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a safe, healthy, and accident-free workplace by planning, directing, and implementing the organization's safety programs. This will involve assisting in the overall management of the plant's Health and Safety programs; performing daily safety tasks; and conducting regular safety inspections, assessments, and audits across the facility, particularly on the manufacturing floor. This position will play a key communicative role, training staff and new hires, coordinating safety procedures with supervisors, and collaborating with department managers to align all duties with company goals and values. This role will report to the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager.

From your EXPERTISE to ours

Key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Assist in the overall management of the plant's safety program, ensuring full compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Conduct frequent safety inspections and audits (daily, weekly, monthly) across all departments, ensuring operational compliance and providing supervisor feedback.
  • Proactively inspect facilities, participate in analyzing occupational hazards, and take measures to prevent potential risks, accidents, and health issues.
  • Investigate all safety incidents and personnel concerns, facilitating root cause analysis and taking necessary corrective measures for unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain detailed logs of all accidents and injuries, analyze near-miss/injury data, and develop effective, risk-preventing corrective actions.
  • Develop and implement safety training for all personnel on the correct handling of chemicals, equipment, and other materials.
  • Lead safety committee efforts (setting targets, instilling responsibility) and manage the health and safety action plan to track all actions through to completion.

  • Travel may be required occasionally.

Requirements

From your STORY to ours

Qualified applicants will contribute the following:

  • Bachelor's degree required; majors in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or Industrial Hygiene are preferred.
  • 3+ years of professional safety experience is required.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and regulations is required.
  • Understanding of industrial hygiene and property loss prevention concepts is preferred.
  • Experience conducting and facilitating risk assessments is preferred.
  • Knowledge of emergency response procedures and crisis management is preferred.
  • Analyze data and situations rigorously to identify root causes and effects, ensuring effective decision-making by selecting and utilizing the most relevant information.
  • Practice high levels of emotional intelligence by identifying and managing emotions positively, communicating with empathy, overcoming challenges, and successfully defusing conflict.
  • Maintain a sense of intellectual curiosity by remaining receptive to new ideas and diverse perspectives, with a commitment to continuous learning that helps develop and grow the organization.
  • Build logical approaches to problem-solving by assessing situations, identifying causes, and deploying targeted solutions while drawing on personal experience and external resources.
  • Transmit and receive information clearly while considering the viewpoints of others to ensure appropriate responses. This includes using tact and diplomacy and adjusting communication style, tone, and detail to engage various stakeholders both orally and in writing.
  • Conduct comprehensive health, safety, and environmental audits and inspections, focusing on occupational risk and environmental strategies to compile and submit detailed findings to management.
  • Lead investigation teams when necessary to conduct thorough inquiries into serious accidents and safety incidents.
  • Maintain expertise in international safety standards, legislation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Apply advanced methodologies to carry out health and safety audits that prioritize the safeguarding of both people and property.
  • Analyze risky situations and diagnose accidents to identify underlying causes, followed by the definition and implementation of sustainable corrective measures.
