Join our Commercial Construction team and gain hands-on experience working on real-world projects that shape the built environment. As a Commercial Construction/Mechanical Systems Intern, you'll support field engineering and project teams on HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems for large-scale commercial projects. This internship is designed to help you apply classroom knowledge to practical challenges, develop technical and project management skills, and learn industry tools and processes. You'll collaborate with experienced professionals, contribute to project planning and execution, and present your learnings in a final report-out to the team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

- Support project tracking: Help monitor project progress, report updates to the team, and identify potential issues. Assist with implementing solutions as directed.
- Assist with scheduling: Track project milestones and priorities to ensure deadlines are met.
- Contribute to estimating and proposals: Help compile cost estimates and prepare proposal documents.
- Provide technical support: Learn to understand project agreements and scopes while supporting technical aspects of projects.
- Work on drawings and documentation: Assist in creating HVAC and plumbing equipment drawings, schedules, submittals, material lists, and as-built documentation.
- Complete required certifications: Participate in any necessary training or certifications during the internship.
- Support field operations: Assist in guiding field teams during installation and execution of contracts.
- Participate in commissioning: Help with commissioning projects and equipment, including ordering and verifying materials.
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers: Work alongside design engineers and project managers throughout all phases of the project.
- Follow safety standards: Adhere to company and customer safety requirements at all times.
- Engage in continuous learning: Take initiative to learn about industry practices, company standards, and product lines.
- Represent the company professionally: Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and uphold company values in all interactions.
- Participate in company initiatives: Get involved in programs and policies that support the overall success of the company.
- Prepare a final presentation: Summarize your internship experience and present it to the team at the end of your assignment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
- To qualify for this internship, you must meet one of the following criteria:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Associate degree from an accredited college OR
- An undergraduate student who has completed at least two years of post-high school education OR
- Have two years of work experience directly related to commercial construction (HVAC, piping, or plumbing)
- Preferred fields of study include Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Drafting & Design, or a related discipline.
- We're looking for interns who bring curiosity and a willingness to learn, along with the following:
- Basic technical and computer skills, including familiarity with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Exposure to or interest in tools like AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam/Adobe Pro, estimating software, or project management platforms such as Procore or Primavera (training provided if needed).
- Comfort using mobile technology (iPhone/iPad experience is a plus).
- Strong communication skills-both verbal and written.
- Ability to stay organized, manage tasks, and work effectively on projects.
- A collaborative attitude and professionalism in representing the company and its values.
Other Details:
- This position will report regularly in person to Duluth, MN.
- Anticipated to begin in May or June 2026 and run through August 2026, aligning with typical academic schedules.
- Work Hours: This is a full-time internship, approximately 40 hours per week during the program period.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.

Compensation:
- The expected hourly compensation range for this position is $17.50-$26.00. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions.
