Sr Structural Project Engineer

HOK is seeking a Senior Structural Project Engineer to lead the successful delivery of large, complex building projects. In this role, you will guide and mentor a team of engineers, shape project concepts, and budgets, and ensure the production of high quality structural designs.

By leveraging advanced technologies and industry best practices, we design structures that are safe, efficient, sustainable, and visually striking.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


Projects (90%)


  • Dedicates time to hands-on engineering for large, complex, and/or high-profile projects.
  • Leads engineering efforts from concept and schematic design through construction documents, construction administration, and commissioning.
  • Participates in client meetings, strengthening relationships with current and prospective clients.
  • Collaborates actively within interdisciplinary teams, contributing ideas, proposing solutions, and taking leadership where appropriate.
  • Conducts site surveys to document existing conditions and inform renovation strategies.
  • Performs construction site visits to review quality, progress, and alignment with design intent and established standards.
  • Ensures delivery of high quality work on schedule and within budget.

Project Management + Technical Improvement (10%)


  • Executes core project management responsibilities, including manpower planning, project communications, budget tracking, deliverable organization, and establishing project delivery standards.



  • Develops and maintains typical details, specifications, drawing standards, and Revit standards in coordination with the BIM team.


  • Stays current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices, recommending improvements to approaches, tools, and services.



  • Advances analytic workflows, documentation quality, and standardized solutions for common and complex engineering challenges.


Strategy + Business Development


  • Dedicates time to project management and continuous technical improvement initiatives.



  • Identifies opportunities to advance engineering design quality and discipline specific design processes.



  • Provides direction on the development and enhancement of Revit tools to elevate team efficiency and performance.



  • Supports business development efforts as needed, including project writeups, participation in industry presentations, and preparation of discipline specific fee estimates and assumptions for prospective projects.


Performance Measures


  • Efficiency and profitability of the engineering team and its contribution to the firm's success.


  • Quality of engineering solutions, reflected in integration, innovation, sustainability, and peer recognition.



  • Overall quality of work, including completeness of design, minimization of change orders, and client satisfaction.



  • Strength and cohesion of the engineering team, demonstrated through effective work-sharing, consistent delivery standards, and strong communication.



  • Contributions to securing new work and rate of repeat clients.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE


  • 10+ years of progressive project engineering experience from concept through project opening, including leadership on high profile work.



  • Licensed SE (in states requiring SE) or PE/CE as applicable.



  • LEED AP or LEED Green Associate preferred.



  • NCEES Record enabling reciprocity in any state.



  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering required. Master's degree preferred.



  • Recognized expertise in the discipline, including recent successful delivery of major projects over $100M and at least one project over $250M.



  • Experience across multiple market sectors including commercial, corporate, institutional/civic, justice, aviation, and healthcare include delivering LEED Gold or Platinum projects.



  • Background in architecturally significant projects.


Technical Skills


  • Demonstrated ability to develop creative, effective solutions to complex engineering challenges.



  • Expertise in current sustainable technologies relevant to the discipline.


  • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.



  • Skilled in structural analysis software such as SAP, ETABS, SAFE, GSA (or similar software).



  • Extensive experience with steel and concrete superstructures, including long-span and high rise systems.



  • Demonstrated seismic design experience through construction.

Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, education and location. The reasonably expected salary range for this position in Denver, Colorado is $125,000 to $165,000. Other compensation may include a discretionary bonus.
