Overview The Senior Engineer is responsible for performing engineering assignments of moderate complexity, including design, analysis, planning, and development of equipment specifications with respect to large power transformers, standards, and test documentation.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Prepare specifications for major substation equipment (e.g., power transformers, phase angle regulators, reactors) and accessories.
- Review and evaluate manufacturers proposals, designs, and drawings for compliance with requirements.
- Conduct technical analysis of bid proposals and participate in vendor qualification activities.
- Perform factory and field inspections to ensure equipment quality and standards compliance.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to Construction and Operating Departments during installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repairs.
- Develop and update operating, maintenance, and test procedures as needed.
- Prepare test procedures for commissioning and post-repair restoration of equipment.
- Interface with equipment manufacturers, industry standards bodies, and R&D organizations.
- Contribute to budgets, appropriations, scoping documents, concept reviews, and cost evaluations.
- Support development and updates of equipment health indices and recommend replacements.
- Participate in the Engineering Duty Roster, providing 24-hour support for emergent issues approximately three times annually.
- Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and A minimum of 8 years of engineering work experience Experience in the development and application of technical principles regarding large power transformers (i.e. rating, application, specification, engineering, operation, and maintenance), preferred.
Relevant Work Experience
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, required.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally, required.
- Knowledgeable in basic engineering design and principles, required.
- Working knowledge of applicable codes and industry standards associated with the equipment engineering, required.
- Ability to write specifications and standards and coordinate engineering projects and assignments, preferred.
- Candidates with a focus in electrical engineering or power systems are strongly preferred.

Physical Demands
- Ability to respond to system emergencies

- Ability to climb ladders and stairs
- Ability to work on elevated platforms, scaffolds, catwalks, roofs, and/or other equipment
- Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
- Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
- Stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs for the duration of the workday
- Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
- Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
Additional Physical Demands
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to work extended hours during system emergencies or scheduled equipment outages, ensuring seamless operations and team support.
