We connect engineering, operations, and policy so New Yorkers can add more clean energy where it's needed most.Role OverviewThe Distributed Generation Strategy Senior Specialist supports developing the future of DG interconnection. You'll bring together internal experts and external partnersPSC, NYSERDA, Joint Utilities ITWG/IPWG, developers, and aggregatorsto modernize policies and technical standards, improve data transparency and hosting-capacity guidance, and prepare the Company for FERC Order 2222 market participation. Your work will turn stakeholder feedback and operational insights into practical changes that make interconnection simpler and more predictable.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Support collaboration with stakeholders to advance policy and standardswork with internal and external stakeholders to develop and evaluate proposals and implementation plans to expand integration of DG into the grid.
  • Support consensus building internallywork cross functionally with your Operations counterpart in DG, partners in Distributed Engineering, Energy Services, Customer Operations, related teams such as E-Mobility, and leadership across all groups.
  • Support constructive stakeholder engagement with customers and developers, aggregators, Department of Public Service (DPS) Staff, NYSERDA, Joint Utilities (JU) Interconnection Policy Working Group (IPWG), and other stakeholders; turn feedback into actionable updates to procedures, settings, and specs.
  • Support improvement of data and toolsshape enhancements to PowerClerk integrations, maps and guidance that help customers site and design projects more effectively.
  • Turn analysis into outcomes to improve processesstudy interconnection trends and pain points and recommend policy/process fixes that reduce rework and uncertainty to improve utility processes and the SIR so customers experience clearer steps and faster decisions.
  • Support market participationhelp with design of process for telemetry/control and distribution reliability needs for FERC Order 2222 so DG aggregations can participate while the local grid stays reliable.
  • Support monitoring of DG market demand and trends along with program performance to inform program strategy and customer services.
  • Support development of financial and other models to understand business models and inform tariff and program design.
  • Support engagement with DG customer portfolio management personnelleverage their operational expertise to support development of strategic planning initiatives, new tools, and regulatory filings.
  • Support development of regulatory filingsprepare DPS filings, guidance documents, and customer-facing resources that make requirements straightforward and consistent.
  • Support customer experience improvements, end-to-endcoordinate changes across teams so improvements on paper translate into better timelines and fewer surprises for customers.
  • Represent the Company at industry conferences and meetings with external stakeholders related to the development of DG projects.
  • Ensure that safe work practices are followed, and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and governmental regulations
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree Three years of experience in energy policy, regulatory strategy, utility planning, or related analytical roles
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Business
Relevant Work Experience
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize data into business insights and effectively communicate the information in oral and written deliverables Required
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite (i.e. Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project) Required
  • Ability to make decisions in real-time, under pressure Required
  • Intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm for learning new skills Required
  • One-year specific experience in utility DG programs, including work with utility DG program strategy, forecasting and reporting Preferred
  • Strong presentation and writing skills a plus Preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, analyze and solve complex strategic and tactical opportunities Preferred
  • Proven experience developing analytical tools leveraging techniques which may include statistics, predictive models, and/or machine learning Preferred
  • Knowledge of distributed generation and/or clean energy programs and technologies Preferred
  • Knowledge of national and New York State clean energy policy a plus Preferred
  • Experience analyzing or managing program performance and/or pipelines Preferred
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, and the ability to see the big picture while maintaining attention to detail Preferred
  • Experience working with diverse teams to align stakeholders around business solutions, and coach and work with these stakeholders through the implementation to drive business results Preferred
  • Demonstrated success in support of clean energy programs Preferred
  • Working knowledge of Standard Interconnection Requirements (SIR), Public Service Commission (PSC) orders, JU/ITWG guidance; familiarity with Cost-Sharing 2.0 and Utility Process governance Preferred
  • Understanding of New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) participation models and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Order 2222 frameworks Preferred
  • Tools & data: familiarity with Con Edison software platforms; skills in SQL/Python/Power BI/Tableau helpful for concise visualizations Preferred
  • Customer-centric mindset with examples of simplifying requirements and improving transparency Preferred
