Overview

Under direct supervision, the Engineer is responsible for performing engineering assignments of basic to moderate complexity. This includes developing designs, analyzing problems, and planning solutions. The role involves conducting field investigations and preparing related documentation such as reports, specifications, standards, and test memoranda within the assigned areas of responsibility.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Manage end-to-end project execution, including design review, bid preparation and evaluation, budgeting and appropriations, scheduling, construction oversight, and commissioning.
  • Develop and review design packages (specifications and drawings), evaluate contractor shop drawings, and perform cost-benefit analyses and conceptual studies to determine optimal designs.
  • Prepare and manage project budgets and appropriation requests, perform engineering calculations, and coordinate the work of consultants, technicians, and designers.
  • Ensure compliance with Company Safety, Health, and Environmental programs, promoting safe work practices and environmental protection in accordance with policy and regulations.
  • Provide technical and operational support to Gas Engineering, Operations, Purchasing, and Construction teams for procurement and project execution.
  • Supervise internal and external design efforts, ensuring quality and adherence to standards.
  • Respond to field emergencies and equipment failures on a 24/7 basis, providing direct technical support as needed.
  • Travel to various Con Edison sites to deliver engineering support and oversee project activities.
  • Offer technical expertise and consultation within the Company and industry in areas of specialization.
  • Perform additional related tasks and assignments as required to support departmental objectives.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 3 years of engineering work experience in the gas or power generation industries. or
  • Master's Degree in Engineering and 3 years of engineering work experience in the gas or power generation industries.
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Master's Degree in Engineering and 3 years of engineering work experience in the gas or power generation industries.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Thorough knowledge of gas systems or power generation equipment, required.
  • Strong understanding of utility industry safety standards and process safety measures, required.
  • Ability to develop in-depth expertise in Company codes, standards, procedures, and specifications related to LNG plant design and compressor station systems, required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to delivering exceptional customer service, required.
  • Proven technical competence with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, required.
  • Flexibility to manage multiple assignments, adapt to changing priorities, and meet deadlines, required.
  • High level of personal accountability and dedication to engineering excellence, required.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and influence others positively, required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, customers, agencies, and all levels of management, required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), required.
  • Ability to promote a positive work ethic and uphold corporate values with high energy and professionalism, preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License Required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) Preferred
Physical Demands
  • Ability to respond to system emergencies
  • Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
  • Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
  • Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
  • Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
