About the Job

The University of Minnesota's Masonic Institute on the Biology of Aging and Metabolism is an interdisciplinary team aimed at advancing research on the fundamental biology of aging. Our goal is to discover ways to therapeutically target aging, which will extend healthspan.

Primary responsibilities:
Specific technical/bench-work research (60%):
* Keep detailed records of all experiments and procedures in laboratory notebooks, databases, spreadsheets, and web-based applications.
* Learn assigned techniques

General laboratory management duties (30%):
* Prepare media, enzymes, and solutions under sterile conditions in large quantities.
* Work under the Lab Manager to manage day to day laboratory operations by coordinating shipping and receiving, ordering supplies, inventory updates, general laboratory organization, dishwashing and autoclaving.
* Help the preparation of tubes, labels and supplies for experiments
* Follow established biological, chemical and physical safety procedures and train new personnel

Other duties as assigned (10%):
* As assigned by immediate supervisor

Required Qualifications:
* Dedicated time each week
* Ability to communicate effectively
* UMN undergraduate student in good standing

Preferred Qualifications:
* Previous experience at a bench
* Molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology coursework

**Workstudy preferred but not required.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $15.25/hr; depending on education/qualifications/experience
