Job Overview

The Senior, Asset Protection Investigations & Training plays a critical role in protecting the brand by leading comprehensive investigations and supporting all aspects of the Asset Protection program within assigned divisions. They provide training across all levels of the AP organization, manage internal investigations, oversee localized external investigations, and review adverse events. The Senior also invests time in stores, collaborating directly with Asset Protection and store teams to strengthen compliance, reduce loss, and enhance operational effectiveness.

What You Will Do



  • Provide training on investigative tools, systems, and Asset Protection procedures to colleagues at all levels of the organization.
  • Facilitate training and support for AP executives and colleagues, ensuring compliance with company standards; serve as a subject matter expert on Macy's policies and procedures.
  • Review cases involving policy violations, Customer Bill of Rights complaints, and Non-Productive Detainments, coordinating with Colleague Advisory and legal teams to ensure proper resolution.
  • Lead internal investigations and oversee external investigations, including complex and high-impact cases, ensuring timely resolution and appropriate prosecutorial decisions.
  • Support the Divisional Director in executing AP programs focused on inventory loss prevention, shortage reduction, and external theft strategies.
  • Actively participate in lead generation, case development, and investigative interviews in stores.
  • Partner with Central Investigations, law enforcement, and prosecuting agencies to develop leads and present cases for prosecution.
  • Manage internal case administration, including documentation, approvals, and coordination with Colleague Advisory and legal teams.
  • Oversee all aspects of restitution, including issuing promissory notes and pursuing court-ordered financial recovery.
  • Leverage inventory findings and trend analysis to investigate loss and design strategies to resolve shortage opportunities.
  • Promote safe work practices and cultivate a culture of respect, inclusion, and authentic connection with colleagues and communities.
  • Build strong partnerships with leadership, share investigation outcomes with senior leaders, and facilitate cross-functional collaboration.
  • Support and respond to Organized Retail Crime investigations in partnership with the Senior Manager of ORC Investigations when appropriate.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.

Skills You Will Need

Investigative Expertise: Skilled in leading internal and external investigations, including high-impact cases; proficient in case development, exception reporting, trend analysis, and conducting investigative interviews in stores.

Training and Development: Ability to design, deliver, and evaluate training programs across all levels of the AP organization, ensuring compliance with company standards and policies.

Collaboration: Strong ability to partner with regional leadership, AP peers, and internal stakeholders to ensure consistent execution of AP initiatives and compliance standards.

Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills; able to effectively convey information across diverse audiences, including senior leadership, store teams, and law enforcement.

Leadership and Influence: Demonstrates leadership, negotiation, and coaching skills to drive initiatives, influence outcomes, and guide teams toward performance goals.

Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: Proactively identifies issues, develops solutions, and executes strategies to resolve challenges in a timely and effective manner.

Analytical Skills: Ability to leverage inventory findings, data, and trend analysis to inform investigations, loss prevention strategies, and shortage reduction initiatives.

Adaptability and Initiative: Resourceful self-starter who works independently and collaboratively, adaptable to changing priorities and dynamic environments.

Performance Monitoring and Accountability: Monitors team performance, holds business partners accountable, and motivates teams to achieve and exceed department goals.

Who You Are



  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. 2+ years of leadership experience or retail investigations experience.
  • This position requires heavy lifting, constant moving, remaining in a stationary position, and reaching with arms and hands. Involves remaining in a stationary position for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 30 lbs. stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. May involve reaching above eye level. Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Able to sustain extended periods of CCTV and/or PC screens to facilitate surveillance or analysis.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
  • Able to travel within division/market of responsibility with periodic need to travel overnight based on the needs of the business. Position requires regular physical presence in Macy's store locations, with an opportunity for remote work, when needed.
