The Role

At QuidelOrtho, we're advancing the power of diagnostics for a healthier future for all. Join our mission as our next Director of Field Application Services - East. The Director of Field Application Services (FAS) leads a high-performing team of Field Application Specialists responsible for clinical, scientific, and technical support across the diagnostic testing portfolio. This role is accountable for enabling successful pre- and post-sales adoption of products, driving customer satisfaction, supporting revenue growth including selling/driving menu expansion, and serving as the clinical and scientific voice of the customer back to the organization. The Director partners closely with Sales, Service, Product Management, R&D, Quality, Regulatory, and Marketing to ensure consistent, compliant, and value-driven customer experiences.

The Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

* Build, lead, and develop a geographically distributed team of Field Application Specialists.

* Establish clear performance expectations, coaching plans, and career development pathways.

* Drive a culture of scientific excellence, customer focus, accountability, and continuous improvement.

* Ensure appropriate onboarding, training, and certification of FAS team members.

Customer & Commercial Enablement

* Partner with Sales leadership to support pre-sales activities including product demonstrations, clinical consultations, workflow assessments, and competitive positioning.

* Oversee post-sales implementation support, validation assistance, and optimization of customer workflows.

* Act as an executive escalation point for complex clinical or technical customer issues.

* Build strong relationships with key accounts, KOLs, and strategic customers.

Strategy & Operational Excellence

* Define and execute the Field Application Services strategy aligned with business objectives and growth priorities.

* Develop scalable processes, tools, and metrics (KPIs) to measure effectiveness, utilization, and customer impact.

* Optimize territory coverage, resource allocation, and engagement models.

* Partner with Operations to forecast headcount and budget needs.

Cross-Functional Partnership

* Serve as the voice of the customer by translating field insights into actionable input for Product Management, R&D, and Marketing.

* Collaborate with Quality and Regulatory to ensure compliance with applicable regulations (e.g., CLIA, CAP, FDA, ISO).

* Support clinical studies, evaluations, and evidence-generation activities as needed.

* Align with Service and Support teams to ensure seamless handoffs and issue resolution.

Training & Knowledge Management

* Oversee development and delivery of internal and external training programs, including sales training and customer education.

* Ensure the FAS team remains current on scientific advancements, product updates, and competitive intelligence.

* Establish best practices and standardized documentation across the function.

The Individual

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field preferred.

  • 12+ years of experience in diagnostics, laboratory medicine, or life sciences, including field-facing roles.

  • 5+ years of people leadership experience managing remote or field-based teams.

  • Experience supporting molecular, immunoassay, chemistry, hematology, transfusion medicine, or point-of-care diagnostics strongly preferred.

  • Travel: Up to 50% domestic overnight travel.

  • This position is not currently eligible for visa sponsorship.

  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Salary Transparency

The salary range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities of the candidate, in addition to internal equity and alignment with market data. At QuidelOrtho, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on that facts and circumstances of each case. The salary range for this position is $155,000 to $210,000 and is eligible for a Global Bonus Plan. QuidelOrtho offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, along with a 401(k) plan, employee assistance program, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, paid time off (including sick time) and paid Holidays. All benefits are non-contractual, and QuidelOrtho may amend, terminate, or enhance the benefits provided, as it deems appropriate.

Le ou la Directeur(trice) des services d'applications terrain (FAS) dirige une equipe hautement performante de specialistes en applications terrain responsables du soutien clinique, scientifique et technique pour l'ensemble du portefeuille de tests diagnostiques. Ce role est responsable de favoriser l'adoption reussie des produits avant et apres la vente, d'accroitre la satisfaction de la clientele, de soutenir la croissance des revenus (y compris la vente et l'expansion des menus) et d'agir comme la voix clinique et scientifique du client au sein de l'organisation.

Le ou la directeur(trice) collabore etroitement avec les equipes de Ventes, Services, Gestion de produits, RD, Qualite, Affaires reglementaires et Marketing afin d'assurer une experience client coherente, conforme et axee sur la valeur.

Responsabilites

Leadership et developpement de l'equipe

  • Batir, diriger et developper une equipe geographiquement repartie de specialistes en applications terrain.

  • Etablir des attentes de performance claires, des plans de coaching et des parcours de developpement de carriere.

  • Favoriser une culture d'excellence scientifique, d'orientation client, de responsabilisation et d'amelioration continue.

  • Assurer l'integration, la formation et la certification appropriees des membres de l'equipe FAS.

Soutien client et commercial

  • Collaborer avec la direction des ventes pour soutenir les activites prevente, notamment les demonstrations de produits, les consultations cliniques, les evaluations des flux de travail et le positionnement concurrentiel.

  • Superviser le soutien a l'implantation apres-vente, l'assistance a la validation et l'optimisation des flux de travail des clients.

  • Agir comme point d'escalade executif pour les enjeux cliniques ou techniques complexes touchant la clientele.

  • Etablir des relations solides avec les comptes cles, les leaders d'opinion (KOL) et les clients strategiques.

Strategie et excellence operationnelle

  • Definir et mettre en uvre la strategie des services d'applications terrain en alignement avec les objectifs d'affaires et les priorites de croissance.

  • Developper des processus, outils et indicateurs de performance (KPI) evolutifs afin de mesurer l'efficacite, l'utilisation et l'impact client.

  • Optimiser la couverture des territoires, l'allocation des ressources et les modeles d'engagement.

  • Collaborer avec les operations pour prevoir les besoins en effectifs et en budgets.

Collaboration interfonctionnelle

  • Agir comme la voix du client en traduisant les connaissances du terrain en recommandations concretes pour la gestion de produits, la RD et le marketing.

  • Collaborer avec les equipes Qualite et Affaires reglementaires afin d'assurer la conformite aux reglements applicables (p. ex. CLIA, CAP, FDA, ISO).

  • Soutenir les etudes cliniques, les evaluations et les activites de generation de donnees probantes, au besoin.

  • S'aligner avec les equipes de services et de soutien afin d'assurer des transitions sans faille et une resolution efficace des enjeux.

Formation et gestion des connaissances

  • Superviser l'elaboration et la prestation de programmes de formation internes et externes, incluant la formation des ventes et l'education des clients.

  • Veiller a ce que l'equipe FAS demeure a jour quant aux avancees scientifiques, aux mises a jour des produits et a l'intelligence concurrentielle.

  • Etablir les meilleures pratiques et la documentation normalisee a l'echelle de la fonction.

Profil recherche

Exigences

  • Baccalaureat en sciences de la vie, sciences de laboratoire clinique ou domaine connexe (prefere).

  • Plus de 12 ans d'experience en diagnostic, medecine de laboratoire ou sciences de la vie, incluant des roles terrain.

  • Minimum de 5 ans d'experience en gestion de personnel, notamment d'equipes a distance ou sur le terrain.

  • Experience en soutien de diagnostics moleculaires, immunodosages, chimie, hematologie, medecine transfusionnelle ou diagnostics au point de service fortement souhaitee.

  • Deplacements : jusqu'a 50 % de deplacements nationaux avec nuitees.

  • Ce poste n'est actuellement pas admissible au parrainage de visa.

  • Executer toute autre tache connexe assignee.
