The Pathology Imaging Lead's role is oversight and subject matter expert for the efficient operation of Pathology Imaging technology and supporting systems for clinical, research, and educational purposes. This includes prioritization of daily volumes and alignment of scanning resources to achieve service level agreements. This role also involves ensuring the digital scanning equipment is properly maintained, including performing routine maintenance, coordinating scheduling preventive maintenance, and submitting support tickets.
The Pathology Imaging Lead will be the primary point of contact for pathology imaging technicians, scanning assistants, pathologists, laboratory staff, and IT professionals to integrate imaging technology into pathology workflows, ensuring regulatory compliance and system enhancements.

Essential Functions:

Operates and maintains various Pathology Imaging instrument platforms and provides first line support and escalation point for Pathology Imaging staff and consumers of the service.

Engages with Image Management Systems, AP LIS, and other software platforms required to support pathology imaging workflows and troubleshoot related issues. Provides feedback on opportunities for improvements and performs testing and validation of new features.

Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or appropriately escalates issues related to Pathology Imaging hardware and software, ensuring minimal downtime. Performs routine maintenance on imaging equipment and maintains maintenance records.

Provides training for Pathology Imaging staff and other key related personnel to support pathology imaging activities across MGB sites. This will involve occasional travel between MGB sites.

Performs routine Pathology Imaging related functions including slide preparation, monitoring image quality, slide delivery, and retrieval.

Supports validation of Pathology Imaging platforms and integration with laboratory infrastructure and software.

Supports faculty and staff for Pathology Imaging in research projects, teaching initiatives, and clinical diagnostics.

Maintains quality and performance data for clinical and regulatory purposes. Collects and organizes process improvement feedback related to workflows that support Pathology Imaging.

Follows established protocols, safety standards, and regulatory guidelines.

Required Skills and Abilities

Proficient working with complex digital imaging platforms and data management systems. Proficient in MS Office, MS Outlook, and MS Teams.

The ability to assess image details (color, focus, orientation, contrast, brightness) for quality control purposes.

Comfortable working with human tissues and clinical specimens.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills with a commitment and ability to adapt to advances in Pathology Imaging.

Ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot technical issues with attention to detail.

Ability to work under minimal direct supervision.

The ability to stand for extended periods and to walk frequently throughout the facilities to support the operation.
