The Technology and Innovation Division is composed of three specialized units; the Information Systems Unit, Criminal Intelligence Unit, and the Cybercrime and Digital Evidence Unit ("CDEU"). Within the CDEU, there are four squads that work closely together: the Cybercrime Investigations Squad, Internet Crimes Against Children Investigations Squad, Digital Forensics Squad, and the Operational Technologies Squad. The Mission of the Cybercrime Investigations Squad ("Cyber Squad") is to conduct federal and state criminal investigations involving cybercrime violations. Cybercrime Investigations, as part of the FBI Joint Cyber Crime Task Force (JCCTF) include, but are not limited to, business email compromises, ransomware, online threats, account takeovers, cryptocurrency theft, and money mule networks. The primary focus of the Cyber Squad is the disruption of transnational cybercrime organizations by targeting their domestic presence, criminal investigative response to cyber incidents, cyber intelligence-gathering, and general deterrence through prosecution of any local bad actors. The secondary focus of the Cyber Squad is government and private sector coordination, collaboration, outreach, and education

Key Responsibilities:

Interns assigned to the Cyber Squad will be exposed to various types of cyber-related criminal investigations, cryptocurrency tracing, the collection and preservation of digital and non-digital evidence, cybercrime research, public awareness, education, intelligence sharing, support, and training. Those assigned to a Cyber Squad Internship will gain an understanding of how the Cyber Squad investigates complex technology facilitated crimes, as well as how the Cyber Squad supports TBI Special Agents and our other federal, state, and local law enforcement partners across Tennessee to investigate, identify, and arrest/deter cyber criminals.

Academic Year Preference:

Internships are open to college juniors, seniors, or those pursuing post-graduate education.

Preferred Qualifications:

Working toward obtaining a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph. D related to computer science, computer information systems, information technology, information security, digital forensics, cybersecurity, cryptocurrency, accounting, or other technology-related courses.
