Summary:

The Oncology Genetic Counselor role is responsible for assessing individual and family risk for hereditary cancer syndromes, providing guidance on genetic testing options, and supporting informed decisionmaking for patients and families navigating cancer risk. This role delivers education, emotional support, and evidencebased recommendations to help individuals understand and manage their hereditary cancer risks.The genetic counselor works collaboratively with oncologists, surgeons, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other members of the multidisciplinary cancer care team to integrate genetic information into personalized cancer prevention, surveillance, and treatment planning.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: Master's Degree in Genetics Counseling.
  2. License/Certifications: Board certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG) or American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC).
  3. Experience: Genetic counseling experience preferred.
