Senior Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations

The Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR) is a key member of the CFR leadership team and plays an integral role in strengthening the program. Fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and accountability, they serve as a thought partner to the Assistant Vice President of CFR and help to shape and implement the CFR team's vision and focus on fundraising for mission-driven cutting-edge clinical and research programs and priority areas of Mass General Brigham.
The Senior Director will lead and manage a small team of CFR professionals focused on distinct MGB priorities. They must have a proven track record of securing six and seven-figure grants and gifts and will personally manage a portfolio of high-value corporate and foundation prospects. In addition to supporting team members' individual fundraising goals, the Senior Director will be responsible for raising $2-4M+ annually.
*Partner with AVP: Help shape and implement the department's long-term vision, fundraising strategies, and annual business plan. Serve as a thought partner to the Assistant VP, contributing insights on market trends, emerging funding opportunities, and potential high-impact partnerships.
*Strategy Development: Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to secure funding for MGB Cancer, driving annual growth and multi-year revenue targets. Provide regular updates on team progress, revenue performance, and strategic priorities.
*Team Management: Manage a small team of corporate and foundation fundraising professionals ensuring alignment with institutional goals and philanthropic priorities. Empower subject matter experts to build strong relationships across business units, gaining deep knowledge on philanthropic priorities, translating those insights into actionable strategies, and facilitating two-way communication. Ensure that opportunities, prospect intelligence, and funding priorities are shared promptly to maximize cross-team success. Provide active management to direct reports, including complete performance evaluations in a timely manner, maintain up to date job descriptions and partner with Talent Management on recruiting and onboarding new direct reports.
*Portfolio Management: Personally manage a high-value portfolio and oversee portfolio assignments for team members with careful attention to portfolio equity, load, and moves management. Set performance expectations, monitor progress, and provide the tools and guidance for team members' success.
*Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with internal stakeholders - including division and department leaders, clinicians, researchers, and senior leadership - and with Trustees and other leadership volunteers to develop cross disciplinary, transformational, and innovative funding opportunities for institutional priorities.
*Ensure Compliance, Documentation: Maintain accurate records in donor databases, adhere to organizational standards and confidentiality requirements. Contribute to positive office morale and take on additional duties as needed.
*Professional Development: Remain current on philanthropy trends to be an effective ambassador for programs and giving opportunities for both donors and internal colleagues.
*Travel and Work Flexibility: Be prepared to travel and work evenings/weekends as necessary for prospect meetings, events, and professional development opportunities. Represent the AMCs externally at donor meetings, site visits, networking events, and conferences to build visibility and credibility with funders.

This position requires a bachelor's degree and 10+ years of progressive frontline fundraising and management experience. In addition, the successful candidate will bring a track record of successful solicitation and stewardship of mid-six-figure individual gifts, and the following skills, abilities and competencies:

  • Proven leadership and management skills.
  • History of professional growth within an organization.
  • Experience working with the top leadership of local and national foundations and corporations.
  • Knowledge of major and principal gifts fundraising practices and hybrid philanthropic giving vehicles.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, including demonstrated ability to absorb information about a variety of medical and scientific topics and communicate it to others in lay language.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent attention to details and a strong work ethic.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively, effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Creativity and high levels of energy and enthusiasm.
  • Commitment to adopting best practices and operational efficiency.
  • Inclination to build relationships with internal and external constituencies.
  • Ability to evaluate problems accurately and display sound and confidential judgment.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proficiency with Raiser's Edge, preferred.
  • Command of videoconferencing platforms (Zoom and Teams preferred).
