Quality Manager

Georgia-Pacific, Brookneal OSB is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Quality Manager to join our Oriented Strand Board (OSB) manufacturing facility in Gladys, VA (about 30 minutes out of Lynchburg VA).

This role is responsible for leading and managing the quality control and technical aspects of our production process to ensure the highest standards of product quality and operational efficiency, consistent with our Principle Based Management (PBM) philosophy and framework. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the technical and operations teams that are challenged to manufacture high quality products while eliminating waste. Georgia-Pacific Brookneal is an Oriented Strand Board (OSB) Manufacturing site located in Gladys, VA. This type of OSB is used for floor, wall, and roof sheathing in residential and light commercial construction applications. What You Will Do

  • Lead a team of Process Control Technicians to maximize performance and meet key objectives. Facilitate team development and communication, employee skill development, problem-solving and resolution, and encouraging employee commitment and accountability.
  • Support value creation efforts by analyzing process performance and developing key metrics to promote process improvement in safety, environmental, production, quality, value, and yield performance and digital transformation
  • Supervise and coordinate production efforts that result in sustained improvement in all associated work processes including Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) Compliance, Reliability, Quality, Production, and Costs
  • Use Data Analytics and a structured approach to problem solving
  • Develop and apply strategies to optimize on-going production in conjunction with the operations, maintenance, and engineering teams throughout the organization
  • Identify gaps and collaborate with key site and divisional personnel to value and prioritize identified opportunities and outline execution strategies accordingly
  • Oversight of records as they pertain to product quality including: COA's, Calibration Records, Production Records, Process Validations, Department Checks, and others as defined by the QMS Manual and Records and Information Compliance Standards
  • Manage product quality, value and yield to contribute to the overall success of the facility
  • Assist with planning and execution of jobs and projects during both running and downtime events.
  • Serve as a liaison between Georgia-Pacific and the 3rd party certification auditors
  • Enforcement of standard operating procedures and coaching of production personnel pertaining to QMS program responsibilities, including quality checks and data collection and oversight of non-compliant products
  • Work with plant leadership and production personnel in the recognition and correction of noncompliant conditions in all production departments to ensure delivery of prompt and appropriate root cause analysis and corrective actions and act as a gatekeeper for customer claim response
  • Work with other GP plants and division personnel to initiate change and share best practices and improvements. Travel occasionally to other sites to assist with internal audits and outages.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Five (5) or more years of experience working in a continuous industrial manufacturing process
  • Experience with data analytics and statistics, SQL, Databases
  • Experience working with Quality Management Systems (QMS)
  • Proven leadership experience supervising a team of direct reports (including employee coaching and performance management)

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Extensive experience in OSB manufacturing, including quality control and technical leadership
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, wood science, or a related field
  • Lean Six Sigma Training
  • Experience leading product trials
  • Experience in a wood products environment
  • Proficiency in regulatory compliance and industry best practices
