Join the HJF Team! HJF is seeking a Sr. Network Administrator to provide management oversight and support for all of HJF departments and programs. The Sr. Network Administrator will manage installation, configuration, and operations and maintenance of the hardware to include servers, storage area networks, tape library and appliances and software to include Windows, Solaris, Unix/Linux OS, middleware, and tools. The position provides end-to-end systems engineering and service integration for all IT infrastructure in support of business applications. The position is located in the Office of the Senior Vice President for the University, Office of the Vice President for Information and Educational Technology, Network Operations and Communications (NOC) Directorate, LAN Operations, at USUHS in Bethesda, MD. The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals. This position requires an in-office presence 3 days a week. U.S. Citizenship required for this position.
- Serves as Tier/Level 3 technical advisor to the Division Chief, Network Operations USU, and the NOC technical sta for Local Area Network (LAN) architectures, topologies, and network operating systems. Provides technical expertise regarding the Cisco Network Operating Systems, Cisco switch configuration, maintenance and support, VoIP, Cisco Catalyst Center, Cisco Services Engine (ISE), Microsoft and Linux operating system, VMware software, Storage area network (SAN), Google Cloud Computing email system, Virtual Private Network (VPN) and guiding technical sta as required.
- Designing, testing, evaluating and performance monitoring of operating systems, hardware platforms, and software modules for compatibility and use within the operating systems environment. Maintains local area network hardware and COTS software and manages complete systems of Microsoft and Linux servers in support of USUHS.
- Serves on specialized projects as an expert in network hardware, software protocols, and IT telecommunications management. Develops and manages the network architecture to support the university and off-base commands. Functions as a lead within the division, providing direction and training in network equipment, protocols, and troubleshooting.
- Manages IT/LAN networks; coordinates LAN problems and incidents, providing expert advice in the resolution of both in house and base network problems. Provides expert consulting assistance to users in the use of LAN software and connectivity, including remote access, file transfer, Internet access, and satellite technology.
- Attends meetings and symposia dealing with IT systems and IT LAN and its applications with University representatives. Applies the latest IT and didactic management principles to develop and implement network integration in support of the highest standards of military medicine and research.
- Supports over 3,500 subject matter users by developing or designing software for network and computer-based applications. Integrates divergent hardware, software, and computer related services to provide an integrated information system that accommodates the administrative, academic, and teaching needs of a medical university. Analyzes and enforces information security configuration and monitors user access to ensure operational integrity of all university information systems, to include certification and accreditation activities.
- Develops and forecasts IT resource and budget requirements. Analyzes logistical documentation to create forecasting models. Evaluates life-cycle maintenance and its impact on IT mission requirements. Participates in strategic planning and visionary IT infrastructure design, coordinating communication for all IT-related issues. Contributes to the strategic design, development, and implementation of protocols for installing, testing, and evaluating hardware/software and network upgrades.
- Engages in self-education process to maintain familiarity and expertise with applications/systems and latest industry trends. Identifies potential problems/risks with current configuration and develops plans to address issues.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in Information Systems or related field is preferred. 5 years relevant professional training and/or experience as an appropriate substitute for a college degree.
- Minimum of 9-10 years minimum relevant professional experience or significant scholastic experience required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience demonstrating accomplishment of computer project assignments with broad knowledge of computer requirements and techniques.
- Expert in the LAN specialty area, utilizing a wide range of DoW and commercial LAN and computer techniques, requirements, methods, sources, and procedures.
- Expertise in Cisco Networking/UCS, switch configuration, maintenance, and support, along with Linux OS, Windows Server OS, VMWare, and backup solutions. Skilled in hardware and software troubleshooting.
- Experience in system security protocols, policies, and procedures, as well as system growth analysis and capacity planning. Proficient in load balancing technologies, VoIP, network infrastructure components, and wireless access points.
- Expert knowledge with current and future practices, terminology and principles of networking and information Technology. Local and wide area networking principles and operations. Continuity of operations practices relating to local area networks, and connectivity to wide area networks.
- Expert in cloud services and other IT systems administration theories and concepts with knowledge of client application and Storage Attached Network (SAN).
- Interpersonal skills to work with a variety of management and technical personnel.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
Physical Capabilities
- The job requires the ability to push carts in excess of 100 pounds.
- Bending, stooping, carrying, and lifting light items such as computer equipment, printer paper, etc.
- The job requires long periods of sitting. Must be able to access all areas of the University or surrounding campus facility.
Certifications 1 of the 3 required
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or equivalent.
- Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and/or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) preferred.
- Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure)
Work Environment
- The job is performed in a well-lit, well-ventilated computer facility. Duties may require occasional part-time evening and/or weekend work. Minimal off-site activities may require exposure to laboratory environments or outdoor walking within a mile.
Compensation
- The annual salary pay range for this position is $111,000-$150,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
