The State Highway Administration's (SHA) District 4 (Baltimore County) is currently recruiting for a Transportation Engineering Technician III position. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies in this classification.


Nature of Work
: This position will serve as a Transportation Engineering Technician III on small size road or bridge construction projects of relatively low complexity and an Inspector on a large or complex project. The incumbent will manage, direct, and supervise a staff of subordinate inspectors. They will ensure that all applicable safety regulations are adhered to by all SHA employees, contractor personnel and visitors to the project, and act as the primary source of technical advice for this project staff, providing guidance, technical assistance, directions and solutions to construction and engineering problems. This position will administer all required conferences and meetings such as pre-paving, pre-concrete placement, pre-steel setting, erosion and sediment control, and monthly job progress. They will also review the contract drawings and documents daily, for completeness and accuracy, identifying, resolving or referring all discrepancies. This position will evaluate the capabilities and dependability of the project staff to ensure competent and thorough inspection of all aspects of the construction project. The incumbent will direct and monitor the complete and accurate documentation of the construction, ensure that all files are current, and all progress estimates are accurate.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three (3) years of experience in technical engineering related work in the areas of design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning.


Notes:

1. Applicants may substitute education in a civil engineering curriculum at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.

2. Applicants who possess an associate's degree in engineering, construction management or surveying or surveying technology from an accredited community college, college or university are considered to have met two years of the required experience.


Licenses & Certifications

Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland.

The selected candidate will be required to pass the Quality Assurance/Quality Control Certifications (Soils, Concrete and Hot Mix Asphalt must be obtained within the probationary period).
